finally gonna get some decent start line gearing with the new transmission......
some of you may remember me whining about my 60's only being 1.6's because my 1st gear was 3.27
so i ended up with a situation where all my gears were perfect for the 4.10's except first......
the new tremec 600 has a 2.87 first gear, which brings the start line ratio from 13.xx down to under 12......should make a big difference in the 60', now that i'll be able to shift AFTER 60' lol
trans keeps all the other gears the same as the TKO II within a hundreth or 2 ( 2nd 1.98, 3rd 1.34, 4th 1.00, 5th 0.64)
gonna lighten up the front end too with some tubular stuff and put an adjustable timing set on it, so i can play with the cam timing

wouldnt going to a higher gear ratio (3.27-->2.87) make the car slower in the 60`.with the 3.27 1st gear how much before the 60` were u shifting??
3.27 is the gear ratio in the diff. The 2.87 is the first gear in the tranny. That gives you a torque multiplication of 9.38. My current configuration is only 7.84 (1.72x4.56) but I have a lot more torque off the engine to use.
When I had a 383, I was running 3.27 gears and a TH350 which has a 2.52 first gear. I ran high 11's at 117 mph. The gearing was wrong and the car could have ran mid 11's. I crossed the finish line and the engine was just starting to build power in high gear.

no, cause now he doesn't have to shift so soon, which us why he is loosing time in his 60'.

the rear gear is a 4.10
1st gear in the trans is 3.27
i was shifting basically right before the 60' marker.....and still getting 1.64 short times....which is why im excited about this trans
staying 1st gear longer with 4.10 rear gears and shifting at 6600 = much better 60, and much quicker et's

im losing everything im losing at the bottom of the track, because of that first gear spread.....its actually a combo of the short shift on the 60, and the huge spread from 3.27 to 1.98
Originally posted by rjmcgee He said that first gear was 3.27 and a 4.10 rear gear. I have heard that the 1st - 2nd gear gap was way to wide on the TKO.
