You guys think slicks would help me? I have managed consecutive 14.1 at 98. My 60s are in the 2.1-2.0x range. I have noticed that if the short times are not that low my runs are like 14.3. I have a trans-go shift kit waiting to go in. Trying to save the $$$, but would slicks and a new converter do it? I have been looking at the SLP unit. I cant afford a Vig. Maybe at a later date, after things like mortgage, and new truck. I plan to set aside like 8-900 for the last hurah of mods. The times I got were with the mods in my sig. What you guys think?

It may not be the size of the boat that count, but the motion of the ocean. But it takes a long time to get to England in a rowboat.

First, some specifics: What gears do you have now? Posi? Where are you shifting? What RPMs are you turning as you cross the line?
Most likely, a converter that stalls in the 2500 range and 3.42 gears will get you there with slicks to plant the power, but...
(I'm seriously considering a Boss Hog converter for the TH700. I already have one in the TH400; may not be the cream of the crop, but it's doing the job for me - and for a decent price.)
I would think headers would pick up that extra tenth easily. Then again, so would gears.

I have everything you have plus 1 3/4 headers and 3.42s and I ran a 13.97 But I was spinning really bad with 275/40/17s oh, my fuel pressure is at 46 psi.
Are you spinning a o? What tires/wheels do you have?

I have 255-50-16 futuras. Not the best choice in tires, but I dont want DR's mounted all the time. Now I have the old original rims and i am looking at the new MT DR's. Would 3.73's , slicks and a converter help?

Originally posted by camaro05 3.73s would definantly do it but then you would have streetability issues. They are really bad for gas mileage.
Come on, 3.73s and an overdrive transmission will not even come close to giving you streetability issues. That's the equivalent to having 2.61 gears with a th350.
They will add ~300rpm at 60mph over 3.23s.

How much for the boss hog converter for the 700r4? I priced one at a local speed shop and he quoted $450. the ones for the th400 & th350 were cheaper.
hell through em all on there. torque converter and the gears! Ive got 3.73s and from a 2.73. I noticed a very slight decrease in gas mileage, but with these gas prices.......

what kind of mileage are you getting with those? I get 25mpg on the highway with the 3.42

Whats the chance of that. lol. Talking about competition next door to each other. lol
Looks like ACC only carries two part #s for the 700r4 one for the 27 spline and the other for the 30 spline. Both have a 2200-2800 range also. Do they custom make to your specs?
I know that the guys at PTC will custom make whatever you need. If you need a 10" with 3000 stall or just a 12" with 2400, they can hook you up. You can even send it back to be changed when you upgrade your car. Many local guys are running them at the track. One friend in particular is running a 408 with a PG and it running 6.20 in the 1/8. Car stand straight up on takeoff when he dont chip it down. He is running a trans brake also, so it take quite a beating.
There are guys running the ACC units here also. I dont thing you could go wrong with either, just depends on you specific needs.

an acc boss hogg 3200 converter killed my motor when it balloned. i ran 12.40's, and only made 275whp. go with a decent converter, those things are ****, i know i used to sell them.
my tpi gta with full boltons, 3.23's and a th350 gets 27mpg on the freeway with a 2800 converter.
their converters are INCREDIBLE! my dad has had one for the last 15 years without ever getting it restalled or rebuilt. they are EXPENSIVE, but they are worth every penny. i just got one for my car. they build them to order and they ask about everything in your combo.
I think it is safe to say that you can find somebody that has blown up anybody's "junk" (with the possible exception of Vig - I don't recall anybody - wait, yes, I did hear somebody at the track complaining about them).
Bottom line - research, choose, fork over the $'s, race. There are some mistakes that can be avoided, but in the end, everybody has a bad day now and then (like, who's ever heard of blowing up a PowerTrax? When used as intended, of course...).
well i got 2 brand new BFG DRs yesterday at the swap meet, not to take care of the converter and im set. I may go with the SLP, but I like the higher stall the BH offers.
