hey its been awhile, but with the tubular front end the car is now pulling the wheels consistantly......but still not going quicker.....some tuning to be done i guess.
Originally posted by likeenz24 nice launch, I dont think Ive ever seen a pic of a 3rd gen pulling the wheels with full size front tires. What kinda times are you running?
car ran a best of 11.89 at 117mph last year
and its damn near 100lbs lighter this year, with the tubular front end, and i personally lost about 30lbs since last year.
i've also changed transmissions from a tremec TKO II to a tremec 600
getting a 2.87 1st gear instead of the 3.27 it had before......
so the car should run quicker and faster, but it seems to need a good flogging/tuning on the dyno, as its best this season is 11.94
but it was only at 115mph, so its running quick with less mph than before, which shows the weight loss (as does the air under the tires lol....so once i get it tuned up and making power again, 119-120mph traps should be where its at....hopefully 11.7 if not better then
Originally posted by Rogue86 Just curious how much weight did the tubular K member take off? Do you have the tubular A arms too?
should be about 60lbs or so with the a-arms......its significant......i had them both next to each other and picked them up......and it was impressive....although i didn't weigh them
i have both the k frame and a-arms
the glossy print of this picture is amazing in detail, you can see the wrinkles on the slicks and everything
Nice launch, glad to see the tubular stuff is working for someone. I had the opposite effect happen, here's me with the tubular front end(best 60ft 1.55 pumpgas)
And here's w/the stock stuff back in(new best 60ft 1.51 pumpgas and 100# heavier)
Same tires and everything
Anyhow, nice pic
Steve

thats funny how you pull the wheels with a 100 pounds of exta weight in the front? you would think it would have just pulled them a lil higher with the new K-member.

what rpm do you lauch it at with the manual. Im in the the process of going from a th350 to a manual. just wondering cause mine didnt pull the wheels with auto and runs similar times (7.50 1/8 mile with stock gear)

used to be between 4600 and 5000 with the old 3.27 first gear
with the 2.87 1st it seems to want to be launched around 5100.....
the variance is depending on track conditions (prep quality)
i used a 2-step so its consistant from pass to pass.
of course the motor has alot to do with it as well, i make peak power at about 6600 rpm.
i have a nasty stumble coming off the tree right now just after the launch, so i gotta tune that out and get it to run should be in the 1.5x area after that i would assume....best this year was 1.65 with the stumble....last year running mint was 1.64
I know this is a old thread, but I wanted to show a pic. of my car. I'm also using southside machine lift bars with a Tremec TKO. 3.27 first gear and a 9 inch with 4.11. The rest of the suspension is all stock. best run to date is 11.29 at 119.78 I'm also looking for advice on what shocks and strut changes I should make. Best 60' is 1.58 the car will now be a track only car.
Hey Mark it's good to see you posting back here on TGO.I can't tell you how many times I've talked your car up here.lol.I've been trying to come up with a way to keep up with you with out breaking the bank now that you are dedicating the camaro to track only duty
this pic is on motor, it realy twists when i shoot it. i think i need some lift bars. all i have now is a boxed tourqe arm and lakewood lower controle arms and air bags.

Not sure if im going up there this upcoming summer. I went up 2 summers ago to race RSD and had a blast. The next night we did a street crues and hungout, it was a great time! It all depends on getting a new set of gears for my 9". I can run the 1/4 fine with my 4.86s without nitrous but after running on the bottle this last summer in the 1/8 and going through the traps at 7200 rpm with only a 100 shot i know the 1/4 is out of the "?". I need to get some 4.11s and another 3rd member.

We're going to have to get some N/A runs in next year... i think i'll have a lil somethin somethin' for ya
Ya i here ya Rogue86. after i heard about the combo you were building i wondered how long it would take!! I will be up for it. so hows everything coming together?
I dont understand whats the hell is wrong with my car at all. i have a 355 13.5 compression all the good stuff and i cant get mine to run your guys times. i hvae the south side rear in mine as well with 4.30's, th350 a lot of the same stuff as you guys but mine jsut sucks ***. the best time i have gotten so far is 11.82 the motor is supposed to be making 600 h.p. but its sure not showing those numbers. i have the stock suspension up front spohn control arms and panhard bar 50/50 rear shocks for the rear. i just dont get it, but i am glad your cars are running so good keep it up.
Originally posted by c-u-later Hay Kamu looks like your cars been running good, you still driving it down to WIR from all the way up north or are you trailering it?
Hey Jerry. Good to hear from you again. I bought a trailer last year. I can now go to the track without wonder if I will be able to get home or not. I hope that you can make it to WIR next summer. If you do we will have to get that race in. I pulled the motor this winter to freshen it up. just some new rings and bearings. Everything looked really good when I pulled it apart. When you run your car on the juice let me know what you run. Someday I would like to put mine on the bottle.

Still have a lot of little odds and ends to get, but the big stuff is here. I plan to have it broke in sometime in late december/early January. But I probably wont have all the race goodies on it until we get a little closer to spring.
Actually you could probably run me in you fiereo...I prolly wont be going to fast when the 10 bolt goes pop

I bett you get more runs in then you think before your rear goes boom!

The night i ran a 7.38 N/a witha 1.61 60' then i tried a 75 shot and and ran a 7.10 with a 1.58 60'(on the 75shot run my window switch was only set to turn it on at 4000 and shut it off at 6500 and then i went to the 100 shot and spun alot,my 60' was only 1.71 but i still ran a 7.01 at 98mph. next spring i will do more tweeking and try 150 shot! Those are 1/8 mile times buy the way....

Those are some nice times. The best I did last year was
on 150 wet shot with an NOS or NX kit....rule of thumb is you pick up a full second in the 1/8th!
I know my buddy runs mid/high 13's in the 1/4 in his 04 GT and on the 100 wet shot, he runs mid 12's all day long...in the 1/8th he runs 8.6's N/A. on 100 shot he runs 7.8's/7.9's. His car is a freak for osme reason. I think if he sprayed 150 wet shot he'd run 7.5's/7.6's easily...course he powershifts and launches pretty hard on his ET Streets. I got him teaching me the tricks in powershifting...Im teaching him how to launch
My suspension is untouched. All completely as-is from the factory minus the sway bars. No frame connectors or rollbar... I can't believe it hooks hard enough to pull a wheel off the ground with a light burnout on the 27x10.5 QTP's @ 20psi

Nice launch for what you've got although I'd say your playing with a bit of fire without connectors and running nitrous if you havent' 'tuned whatesover'.

I figure I'll run into traction problems long before I twist anything... I'm a bit silly I suppose though. If I twisted the chassis on my car I'd probably be proud.

ummm....if the front wheels are off the ground, then no thats a completely incorrect assumption lol
