I am putting in trick front springs in my 84. Here is a shot of the lowered ones that I took out, a stock Z28 5xx and the new ones.
The longer they are the more difficult to install, so my question for those who have used them, did you have to cut them? It would be a bummer to have to take them in and out several times to check.
Do not cut them...
As long as you purchased the small block springs you should be fine. It may look a bit high in the front end at first, but it will settle quite a bit.
When I installed miine car was at a somewhat stock heigth and we fought and fought getting them in out of box full length. Once they were installed and car on the ground, the front end was locked solid-meaning 1 guy pushing on radiator support could not get front end to compress even a lil bit. Was cool could I could pull both wheel off the ground on the street, but totally impractical.
Everybody else that's ever installed the trick springs had to cut them to fit, I laugh at the "settling" statement cause out of the 4 cars I've replaced OEM springs, or my personal race car and those of buddies, after 2+ years I've yet to see any "settle" I know in theory it sounds good, but I've personally never seen it so I claim myth, whatever the car is at at the end of the day is where it will be until millions of compression cycles have occurred weaking the spring.
When you cut them, do it cold as in a saw or cut off wheel, no torch!!!!!!!
Be very reserved when cutting coils off, start by cutting them a few coils higher than stock and work in 1/4-1/2 coils from there....a little coils drops a LONG ways
I have remover a fair amount of weight on my frontend and so i cut one full coil off. The frontend is still a little higher than id like but not too bad. moroso says you can go as much as 2 full coils before it will effect the rate.
would these be practical for a street driven car? like a weekend warrior/cruiser? what about a DD? i have a set here at the house, but just ended up cutting the v6 springs i had to obtain the ride height i wanted...works OK at the track too with 1.75x 60's with the 305...
I ended up cutting about 2 1/2 coils off mine to get the ride height that I wanted. It actually ended up a little lower than I intended but I think it looks good that way. I can still get over the curb going into my driveway without scraping even with dual 3in exhaust so I'm happy with it.
Thanks for the info all. I now have them installed and with no cut the car sits about 1" above stock. Just what I was looking for. Those long springs are sure more problem to install than stock. Don't forget the safety chains and if used across the underneath can assist in the install. I was able to do it without dissconnecting the ball joint or any of the steering. With a pull up on the fenderwell it sure pops up now.

What size of front tires are you running?
and how much weight reduction do you guys (84406 & jbenge) have to the front of your car?
I'll probably end up with a set of these springs in the spring, just trying to plan some things out.
My fronts are 26 on the wheels I use for storage and my skinnies are 24. My weight reduction in the front is alum rad, no power steer, manual brakes and alum intake. My springs are moroso 47210 which are 220#. jbenge might have been using a different spring as I think 2 1\2 coils on mine would make it very low. I also think my car is pretty heavy compared to some.
Well I've got manual steering, no bumper supports, aluminum intake, electric water pump, aluminum radiator, deleted the ac/heater box, and will most likely have a lift off glass hood next season.
Only thing I have that will add a little weight is the dart iron eagle heads, which should be about 8lbs more a piece than the factory iron heads.
With the current v6 springs I have, the car sits ok, but it doesn't want to jump up in the front like I would expect, even with the lakewood 90/10's.
If I can find the funds, I'll probably go to a 26" tall skinny, the ones I have now are too short for my likeing(sp?).
I think my current front tires are about 25 1/2in tall. My springs are also part# 47210. I'm not sure why I had to cut so much off mine, it would have looked like a 4x4 without cutting them. My car is pretty light in the front end: no ac, fiberglass hood, aluminum heads, no emmissions, no blower motor, Aluminum radiator, battery relocated
I'd figure i would add my 2 cents- but on a trail and error, i used the Moog # 5608, which is stock ride height, let them settle a few days with by jacking up the rear of the car as high as you can get it, you may want to cut a coil or two depends on your chioce of ride height,the Moog's have a fast extention rating, plus they settle back to your ride height when your going down the track, the moroso's stay in the air at all times and is harder to control the car if it get out of hand.
