Well went back to the track, as some of you have read i think that i'm going to pull the 310 and put in a 360. Any way it ran 14.9 @ 88, 9.4 in the 1/8th, 2.0 60 ft times. I am starting to feel some peer pressure around here to stick it out with the little motor for a little longer and see if i can figure out what is going on with it. I know that it has a lot left in it, I just can't seem to figure out why it doesn't want to pull hard. May give it 1 more shot in a couple of weeks, going to run a few checks on it and maybe take up a friends carb to see if that makes any difference.

Back in the day when I had my 305 TPI (automatic) in the car, the car ran 14.9 @ 94 mph 1/4, with a flowmaster catback, march underdrive pulleys, and k&n air filters, stock 2.73's, on street tires. Sixty foot times were like 2.1 or so.
I think it dynoed around 198 rwhp, 270 rwtq.

Why can't i get my built 305 to out mph a tpi car with a few bolt on's!!!! That's it, i'm not pulling, and changing engines until this thing runs in the 12's (or it spits its guts all over the track). If it holds together for a run into the 12's then it's goin on the bottle!!!

alright, good to see you on fire for the little motor...wanna see who makes it into the 12's n/a first with a 305?
how bout we have a little 305 war...lets see who can make these things go the fastest. no weight rules, though full interior and street trim gets brownie points. no power adders though. we'll limit cubic inches to 315, cause a .060" over 305 is a 315...no strokers.

And so the war begins!!!!
Sounds good to me!!! You've got the advantage you were almost there with the old one! You should definetely be there with the 113 heads. Although i guess that I have got you on the weight side of things, even with my gfx (2920 car, 3100 going down the track) Sounds like we're both running 3.73 rears now. You've got the advantage with the 700 over my th400 though. Time to tear into the little thing then and see what she will give me!!!! This could make for a FUN summer. I should have the car back at the track in a few weeks to see if I have made any improvements.

My engine is going under the microscope next weekend and I hope to have some decent numbers for it by the first of June.
To top it off it looks like we've got the whole good guy (white car) bad guy (black car) thing happening as well.
Good luck and may the winner see mid 12's by the end of summer!!!

sounds like a mighty fine summer to me!
and just so you know, there are more things i can do to take weight out of the car...i have yet to get a set of front runners for her as well as the heater core and some other odds and ends still need to come out...though full interior along with power mirrors, doors, and windows, will remain.

My best run:
1/4 ET: 16.30
1/4 MPH: 83.47
1/8 ET: 10.42
60 ft: 2.33
The car has bone stock 305 TBI, 2.73 non-posi rear end, automatic.
I'm working on installing 3.70 rear end with posi. I'm curious to see what it'll do to my time without modifying anything else.

Re: Post Your 305 1/4 Mile Times
definitely and old thread but i ran 14.9 with bald tires and bad tune...car sputtered from 1k to 2.5k and flatlined at 4 so . lt1 cam, 305 vortec heads, edelbrock intake with tbi adapter, stock tbi with 350 injectors, hooker headers 2460 with hooker y pipe and catback, stock 700r4 with stock converter, and stock open diff with 2.73 with 130k miles on it. . just installed a fuel pressure gauge and turns out my fuel pressure was set too high at 20 psi. going to install a wideband, bored throttle body, adjust fuel pressure, replace 130k mile distributor for msd and tune it with my ebl this month. and if time and money permits 3.73 posi. any clue as to what i should run? this was at englishtown NJ btw.

Re: Post Your 305 1/4 Mile Times
I was running consistent 15.1 at 91.5mph with my 1984 Camaro LG4 with bolt-ons back in 1992.
Parts list:
Edelbrock Micro-plus
Performer EGR
L98 Electric fand
Underdrive crank pulley
L69 dual snorkel air cleaner with K&N filter
Gale Banks y-pipe, 3" cat, 3" cat-back exhaust
3.42 gears with posi (blown 3.08 OEM rear)
Stock 700R4
Back in 1991/1992 this was fast enough to run with the fast 305 cars and would be about equal to the 1987 L98 cars. The carb was still using the stock rods and hangers and probably would have picked up 1 to 1.5mph with just getting the A/F ratio more dialed in (it was lean).
I just found the old time slips the other day.

Ran a best of 14.76 with my bone stock 91z28 LB9/auto. It was smog and cat-delete with no other mods. Ran 14.88 with my 87 formula after trashing the quadrajet on the old LG4 for a holley doublepumper and headers.

Re: Post Your 305 1/4 Mile Times
I have a LE9 305 out of my k5 blazer I'll prolly use til my 383 is finished. I keep hearing those were the stoutest 305's gm built and it turned my 35's ovr fairly easy so Im curios wat i could get it to do in my RS.

Re: Post Your 305 1/4 Mile Times
The factory HP numberrs are not all that great for the LE9 engines (165 @ 4400 and 240 TQ @ 2,000), but they claim and advertise 9.2:1 compression but had some stupid high compression ratio in some applications whether by accident or design. I calculated it over 10:1. Mine had flattops with 6cc valve reliefs and the stock pistons sat about .025" down the bore. GM ran a steel shim head gasket and a 53cc 14022601 head on it. I know it was high enough the factory put a special spark control computer on it that had a knock sensor and a "tip in" vacuum switch that retarded the timing on launch. With factory tubular manifolds and stock catless dual exhaust along with some carb tweaks and timing tweaks and a 204/214 cam mine went 15s @ 88 mph in a 5,300 lbs G20 van with a 3.08 gear and 700r4. I question the GM rating on these engines built in the G20 3/4 ton chassis without the factory catalytic converter and without the log style manifolds.

Thanks fast355 that was interesting to read. I've got my rods and crank for my 383 build but ive been considering using them in my l03. Me and a guy from work have been on this debate about the 335 stroker. You can't find to many people around here that even know what that is. Anyone got some time slips for some 335's.

15.1 is all i can remember without digging for all my old time slips. my 60' times were always good for what the car is.
LO3/T5/3.42 posi. March pulleys, no emissions junk, Hypertech chip, 160* temp set up, OEM replacement MSD ignition, Modified air cleaner, Glass pack where the cat should be with nothing past that, Hurst shifter, Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, BFG 255/50r16 Drag radials.

My first 1/4 was 14.67 at 90 mph in my 1986 trans am LB9 stock bottom end with 305 H.O. Heads 1.94I 1.50e and a stock cam, 700R4 stage 2 B&M with megashifter ,and 2.77 9-bolt-bolt. Now I have the same LB9 with the summit sum-g5000 cam retarded 6 degrees, same heads, lt1 injectors, AFPR by Holley, a World class T5 , and 3.45 years for my 9bolt just waiting to get my 3 series carrier i have been trying to find one cheap. hoping to run 13.2 my desktop dyno says i have 283hp to the wheels and 382 ft-lbs of torque
