My son is racing the Camaro this year, his first season. Friday night was the 3rd race of the season. Going into the night, his average RT in eliminations was .024 - okay, many of you do better, but remember, this is his first season, and he's running in the high school class where the average RT is probably something more like .150. His round wins going into the night - Zero! 1st race the car picked up and even though he had the better light and was on the brakes, he broke out more. 2nd race he again had the better light, but stayed on the brakes too long and let the other guy around him. The most interesting aspect of the good elim average RT is his TT RT's had stunk those nights (although he did do pretty well in pre-season T&T's). Tonight his first TT run was .061 RT and 14.51 ET - best ET of the year so far. 2nd and last TT run was .044 RT and 14.52 ET. Hey, things are looking up. 1st round, he gets paired up with a 20-sec 70's 6-cyl Nova. He dials 14.5 because the air has cooled down. They stage, the other guy takes off, he waits, his lights come down, he takes off and I immediately think, "Oh, no!" Yup, redlight. The other kid cut a .147 light and was .1 sec off his dial. So, how bad was this redlight? Would you believe -.002? Sooooo close! But, still a loss. Next race, next Friday. He's got to have a turn of luck pretty soon! (Oh, how did I do tonight, you ask? Well, the 57's ET's were inversely proportional to DA; my RT's were slightly better than my son's in TT's but got worse in eliminations - however, they were better than the guy in the other lane until the 7th & final round - which I lost by .0035 sec. . .)

I had a -.001 redlight in the semi-finals last season. The Mustang in the other lane was .3 off his dial-in too.

My passes down the track so far this year have a best light of .037 and that was during eliminations. Closest to perfect was -.008 during T&T.

Worst so far was the first pass down the track which is a T&T and also my video. I was rusty and the tree activated before I was ready. By the time I let go of the tranny brake, the last yellow was almost on. A 1 second delay in the delay box gave me a .936 light

I starting to keep a "best package" on my web site along with all the other bests. So far only 2 elimination rounds this year and the best package is .183. Need to get that down into the low 2 digit numbers. It would be great to get a .00x light and run the dial within a hundredth. I'd be happy to just get the package down to .05x

As for having to wait 6 seconds after your opponent launches for your own light has red lighted many racers so only a -.002 isn't bad. It was a good shot at the tree. Those slow cars are always hard to beat. If the driver can cut a good light, the slow cars always seem to run the same ET since they have no wheel spin and they'll usually win.

sounds like he's doing good. Just teach him to stage the same way every round so his rollout stays consistent.

Actually, he's doing very well at staging. This was only something like his 20th pass, 3rd in competition, he just anticipated the light a little. I was standing beside the water box wall and saw him moving before I saw the 3rd light. I thought the minus was going to be a lot more, actually.

I know the wins will come, it's just a little frustrating to be doing that well and still not have anything to show for it.
