Anyone that uses these, I need to ask a question....I`m putting on a "pin on" hood that`s just big enough to get some air cleaner under...the harwood 3 inch is touching the front bowl vent so it`s in the for sale section. I`ve picked up the spring loaded fasteners and the 90* brackets and springs, now my question is this....Normally as I understand it, the spring resides under the bracket (rivited) and is captured by the quarter turn screw and pulled up somewhat to create a tension or a preload,... is there a problem riviting the spring on the top side of the bracket to gain clearence for the side edge of the already flismy hood? it looks like it would be no different to me except the rivits holding the spring to the bracket would bare the loads instead of the bulk of the bracket..??would it work at speed? it`s trapping at 130 now and should be another 10mph or so next year..your thoughts?

Mount the bracket upside down so the the spring is up away from the bracket or mount the spring on the top of the bracket. The bracket doesn't support the hood or any other panel that you're trying to attach. It's just holding the spring. If you need some sort of support, mount some sort of rubber bumper to position the hoop at the proper height.

The fasteners are call Dzus fasteners. Pronounced Zeus. No matter who makes them, if you call them that, everyone will know what you're talking about. I'm not even sure if Dzus even makes them any more.

Okay thanks, the hood sits at the right level right now, I just wasn`t sure if it would be alright to run the spring on top of the bracket as opposed to under the bracket as I usually see them installed.

The few that I use all have the spring under the bracket. It makes more sense to have it there until you realize that the rivets holding the top part will hit the bracket unless you can mount the bracket sideways. So a few of the top parts on my panels are turned sideways. It works but looks out of place.
