curious to how far you guys are beating the wheelwells in, or is there cutting involved.
running a 8.5" wheel and 5" backspacing.
hard to do a search for numbers, and when you search drag raidal, you can look for days without useful info.
thanks!

this should be moved to fab section nothign to do with how fast car is if you want to be a stickler
my thoughts were to get more exposure since its a drag tire, though it does deal "with" fabrication.
maybe try and not be a stickler.
i feel i posted in the correct forum.
All you have to do is use an air hammer on the inner tube, roll the edges, tubular lower controll arms. I also recomend a 10'' rim with a 6'' back spacing.
i guess yours are 10" with a 6?
ive got magnums on the car and i dont want to have to buy another wheel. LOL.
when you say tubular arm, just standard, or will i need an offset bushing?
by my measurements, my std control arm should be good.
You may get buy with a std. I would use offset bussings and yes those are 10'' rims with a 6'' backspacing. If you do not want to buy another wheel you may want a 275 tire.
That definitely fills the wells up PLENTY. I wasn't looking for that diameter, just put on 325/50/15's. I know I tried a set of 28x12.5x15's once, and the 28" actual diameter was too much or moreso the ballooning of the tire. I know there's no way I could use my mud/tire rubber catching flaps if I tried the 295/65's, wouldn't be surprised if it needed some metal trimming. I'm using 15x10 wheels on a 6.5" BS and I say it's perfect. Also, I see no problem using a 8.5" wide wheel for a 295, I used to use the stock 7" wide ones with 275's and still do for my street tires.
Man, i thought you could only do a 5 inch BS with a 10 inch wheel and still clear...that looks good Ross, i bet it does well too. How is it on the street? Any well mods?
I set my car up so that I could run a 295 on the spray. I have not sprayed this motor and the car runs .15 faster on motor with a 275 tire and that is what I am using. Here is a pic with the 275s and a 10'' wheel.[IMG][/IMG]
What is all that hanging under the car that does not looks like anything from the factory? I see mufflers but what is on both sides of them and the far right?

In that picture, the red spots needed room, and the yellow spots should also but I'm not turning hard so they should be fine. In one of the yellow areas is the bump stops that should be cut off, but I don't think my suspension will have the tires down that far 99.9% of the time. The left or rear red spot is for diameter clearance and isn't needed on the driver side. The red area at the right or front is where the biggest problem is, and I hammered it in about 1/2".
The bars you see on the outside of the mufflers are SSM lift bars. I plan on getting rid of them some day and putting a torq arm back on the car. I still have lower controll arm. And on the far right is the fuel filter.
Ok, do the lift bars do anything for you? I see them for sale but never thing i will buy any, i would hate to waiste the money on something that a good TQ arm would do just as well.

where did you find a 10" wheel with a 6" BS? That's the offset that I was looking for but I couldn't find it in a 10" so I finally went with a 15x9 with a 5.5" BS Draglite, which is the same offset, just 1" narrower.
That's a lot of tire, you said you're racing on the 275's, do the 295's rub?
Stick with the torq arm set up. I bought these years ago before all the after market parts were readly available. I have been a best of 1.40 60ft with them on dot radials but thay do hit the tires pretty hard.
I have the same rear set up as ross. My car has been 1.33 60 ft with that south side set up. That was the first night out with the new motor. Hopefully it will work once i get it all tuned in. If not then SPOHN is getting the call.

i believe he's running bogart or monocoque wheels, which are custom and can get them in any backspacing or width you want...
I have Hole Shot Wheels made in FL. Thay are actually 5 7/8 back spacing 10'' wide. Blue for a torq arm look into TRZ thay will be coming out with one soon, I also like Mad Man Racings arm its proven on some fast radial fourth gens.83 TA I can run the 295s but the car slows down do to it beeing taller my plan was to use them with nitrous to kill some of the gear I just decided not to use the nitrous do to the lack of funds if I hurt the motor.
the trz arm is gonna be a nice one, but pricey like the madman.
both awesome products though!
if you want a nice arm, check into burkhart chassis. its for a 4th gen, so when you order one, tell them you want a strait cross brace, as the kit is designed for a 4th gen to bolt into their subframe connectors.
its a really nice piece, shorter arm style, very adjustable. bout 400 bucks, 450 for chromoly.
ill be switching to one when i get the extra funds to clear up some exhaust issues with my spohn arm.
Yea, the reason that I’m asking is that I have some 275/60’s and have come to the conclusion that I should have gotten 3.25’s in my 9” rather than the 3.50’s that I have, so I’m considering a taller tire if I can make it fit.
From the pictures the Burkhart setup appears to be the same exact geometry that the madman setup is. I’m not going to argue that you can’t go fast with it, because obviously people have, but I will argue that it isn’t designed correctly. For that TA design to work correctly and not bind the TA would have to be the same length as the LCA’s, which would make it worthless for anything but straight line acceleration, even braking would be hairy. One way or the other, that is probably what is behind the “track use only” recommendations. Madman’s original design was pretty well known to bind, I believe that it’s been changed but it doesn’t appear they’ve done anything about that, the fact is that for coming off the line straight can be done with a bound up suspension as long as it’s bound up in the right position.
OTOH, it’s a shame to do that, since the sliding link TA setup can be made to work at least as well when you get the geometry correct, and still be quite usable on the street and even on the road course. As much as I’m generally against the lift bar (basically ladder bar) setup in these cars, it makes more sense to me then going with a madman type setup

are these pics with the 325/50/15's and a 6.5" backspacing 10" wide wheel?
Yes, those are the 325/50/15's on 15x10 6.5"bs. I also might be finding out how some 315/60/15s fit sometime in the next year, depends on other things first such as a big turbo, cage, and that sort.
cool deal! now i know i have more tire size options...i'm thinking of going to the hoosier drag radial once my m/t's are gone...they're 9lbs lighter/each for the same tire size!

i cant say the weight makes a difference yet in my case.
both tires hit 1.51 at the track. the m/t will for sure last longer driving. track time only, flip a coin.
this is both brands 275 60 15 some sizes the hoosiers are actually a lil wider, for a better footprint, but the m/t has a meaner look. i havent seen an advantage. which ever one is available at the time. haha.

The hoosier is an amazing tire. On my car they are way more consistent and I've been a best of 1.35 on the 275's and high 1.3's all the time.I'm going to go to the 325s this winter mainly for looks.
