re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
Well, being one of the SLOW car owners here I'm hoping for the old worn out 305 to make it into the 8's (1/8th mile). Had zero traction last year, plan to get some good sticky tires this year. Finally got my carb tuned like I want it and timing dialed in where I want it. As posted earlier, it's all about having fun. Everytime I flail on this old worn out 305 and it won't die it just puts a big on my face. I went to work on my timing and found I'd managed to slip the harmonic balancer, hmmmm probably from back before I got the locker in it and it busted the right rear tire loose when I hit second gear and the rpm's went over 6500 before I could get out of it. Yep, old stock valve springs held and nothing flew out of it.

Only got to the track once last summer and reached my mid 11's goal with my new combination. A simple timing adjustment from 33 to 36 degrees netted me 2 tenths. Like to see how far down in the 11's I can get with some carb. and suspension tuning.
Maybe street drive it a little more, find a Nos plate somewhere and spray a little 150 shot to run 10's would be fun too.

very nice thought johnz28^^
i just walked in the door from a roadtrip this morning for my edelbrock rpm heads. my goal is to run an 11.8x timeslip with a 3200lb, 400hp setup, and low 12's consistent enough to win some bracket trophies!!
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
if you got the car moving forward faster insteat of trying to flip over backwords. proably not too much more nos will be needed. but i like the way that car leaves so just keep running 8s on the bumper. hell join the chicago outlaws and get paid to go race. lol
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
ive ran the nos cheater dual carb kit and the big shot kit. ive never changed the jetting from their settings and ive never ever evan burnt a spark plug or had any hints of deton. my 355 motor is basicly some junk with a 225 shot and runs consistant 9.90s. i just wish nos bottles were cheaper to buy i swear you need about 10 of them full just to run a weekend.
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
I want to finally get into the 10's. I should have gotten there a last year but I broke a brand new trans on the 3rd pass of the year. I raced a couple of times with a hurt trans and still managed a 11.10. By the time I got the trans fixed the season was over. My combo should make it into the 10's fairly easy if I can get to the track this year with good weather and track prep. My other goal...don't break anything this year.

Well my old 477 Pontiac ran 9.19 147 mph(3380lbs) back in 03. When I was trying to run NMCA prostock. I have not raced in a few yrs...got a 535 Pontiac and a few other tricks I wanna try...8's will not be that hard but trying to do it at weight(3545 min) and at a Ram Race will be the REAL TRICK!
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
Im rebuiliding my transmisison right now, i have ordered subframe connectors to install, repair my exhaust. I hope to run 14 flat in the 1/4 this year. Then I will add nitrous and aluminum high flow heads and hope to run mid to low 13's on a street tire. Good luck to me!

My current goal is to get the engine back together and running before the end of March. I'm taking it in to get a chassis certification on March 28. I have no way to load it on the trailer without a running engine.
My bigger heads are still at the machine shop getting some valve work done to them. The need some new guides, a few new titanium intake valves $$$ and a valve grind. When I get them back, I need to set up the springs. I'll then need to install them and see what length pushrods to buy.
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
I would like to get a new battery for the car and make it out to the track more then I did last year. Shouldn’t be to hard I only went about 5 times last year

who made the parachute mount and do you have a picture of it behind the bumper?

A different type of mount can be fabricated with a factory style rear. A bar is mounted across the bumper mounts then the chute mount is attached to that bar.

Hoping to have no more engine problems. Get my new shortblock squared away(12.5:1) and make some passes. I'm just hoping for sometrhing in the 11's right now, I doubt the motor has enough grunt foor a high 10 like I hope. Also plan to convert to E85.
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
Bringing this one back up to see who did what in 2009
Lost some weight, now at 3220 getting off track. Car has 10lbs to go and so do I.
Competed in every (6) race weekend, 23 races. Had 2 DNF's. One electircal issue and one due to me t-boning a spinning car.
Finished 5th of a total of 22 points earning competitors, 9 of those competed in most (or all) the events.
Winter projects include:
Rebuilding my radiator box/front breather and trying to straighten out the nose and a fender.
Save $$ for the new rule changes to step up to CMC2 in 2011.

Like most women's New Years resolution, I want to lose some weight.
Try get down to the 3200lb min weight as raced (15lbs from me, ~75lbs from the car).
Complete every race (6), no DNF's. I managed this goal in 2008 (my rookie season) and only broke twice during practice sessions.

Oh my, I was going to do the exact same thing but I was waiting to get to the track one last time! Let's here what you accomplished. Quote your origanal post.

haha, no longer have 6 spd, sold that tranny and bought a Th400 full manual instead. Do have twin turbo motor. Have gone 10.3's on 10psi and rough street tune which aint good at all so lots left in the combination.
One more shot at my local track if the weather holds off this weekend. Hope to break 9's or break trying
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
Well, i obtained my goal of running 10.30's NA on pump gas through the mufflers with my junk....for a few races until i snapped another friggen crank. ever got a chance to get a 9 second slip as most of the races early this year were half track races due to weather, but i had 1/8mi n2o slips saying 9's were easily attainable...i just never got it in ink, so it dont count
Sent the entire engine upto a high end shop in MN and i'm letting them completely diagnoise and go through this thing to figure out WTF is going on and why my car is a crankshaft eating bastard. I had the driveshaft all gone through so all new u joints/rebalance, had the 3rd member checked out, tranny guy assures me nothing in there could do it and the convertor is a huge fluid damper anyhow, but i'm still having him gut the tranny before the new grinder goes back in.
So as of monday they were starting to repaird the heads again and get the top end back in order, then hopefully in the next few months i can start buying new lower end components and this time i'm giving up on pump gass and going strictly to race gas...i just dont street drive it enough. so '10 plans are to run 10.00's on motor and shooting for 680-700hp this time with some other changes to the car...finishing the cage, thinking of ripping out the tq arm garbage and either going ladder bar or 4 link to keep the front end on the ground.
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
I had a late start to the season due to unemployment because of the economy. Once a paycheck started coming in, I made a bunch of passes down the track this year but never got my goal of an 8 second timeslip. I did however beat my previous best ever so slightly on the final track day of the season so the season wasn't a total loss. No major failures again but a few minor mishaps which is typical.
I've already started the off season projects and need to get everything completed before May 2010. Lots to do and 8 months of downtime goes by quickly. I've wasted 1 month already.

I did end up making it out to the track twice this year, spinning bad through first gear then bogging through second gear, my best time was 10.47 at 70 MPH with a 2.494 60 foot, in the 1/8 mile.
re: whats your 2009 season goals (and what didn't you accomplish in 2009)
i got the swap done, got 20mpg, and only ran a 12.02, then blew up the motor, turned around to put a spare 5.3 in, then to turn around and have that one blow up on initial start up...now i'm building a 6.0l.

Got a pair of cheap slicks off the classifieds here and finally made the "8's" (1/8th mile) on the final evening of racing ( I love cool weather) Ran a best ever 8.89.
Now to start on next year's goals.......

I didn't live up to hardly any of the original goals. Here are the details:

Did I really say that? I signed up for one less Saturday class before the season, then first race day I signed back up for it - and ended up season champ. 2nd Friday race day (first race Friday was rained out after one round) I screwed up my allotted time trials, so went and signed up for another class to get another time trial in - ended up 7th in season points in that class.
I ended up running in 7 classes during the summer, and 2 additional in Fall racing. In season points, I finished #1, #2, #2, #2, #2 (Fall series), #3, and #6.

Accomplished that goal in spades. Qualified in 3 classes, ran in two (required having 2 cars there). Represented the track in the Sportsman Race of Champions and was runner-up. On Sunday, I totally messed up - took too much stripe first round of Sportsman and lost even though I had a .043 package backing off (wouldn't have broken out), and brain-farted with a -.008 redlight first round of Pro.

I did run in this one, the King Street class requiring spray to meet the required 12.75 ET. I missed one race in that class (during the Div V finals), one DNQ (nitrous wiring problem), went out first round twice, and still finished 6th.

Didn't come close. I had to stop working on it at the end of March to get the '57 ready for the season, haven't touched it since May. It's going to get all the attention over the winter.

Another that didn't quite end up that way. Berlinetta #1 pretty much stayed the same, but ran quicker than it had previously (partly because I took 30 pounds out of the driver's seat). Only ran it in one class, but it was one of the #2's at season's end mentioned above.
The '57 got a new torque converter and electric water pump. Mid-season I pulled the steel Rally rims and installed Prostars all around - not sure how much difference it made in performance, but I got a lot of comments and compliments on the change. Other than running the carb too rich all season (finally figured that out at the Div finals), it ran better than ever. Ran in the high 12's toward the end of the season, ran the new best last race of the Fall series.
Ran 3 "track records" - running your dial-in with a "zero" in a winning round of competition. Prior to this year, I had done that twice in all the years I've run. No perfect lights, but a couple of 0.001's in eliminations.
I brought home more trophies and prize money checks than I ever have before (in 2004, I didn't bring home a single trophy during the season, but the $4500 prize money from the Div V finals tops all seasons in total prize money).
7 trips to the stage during the track awards banquet next month - not sure anyone has ever done that before at our track.

I've seen that before and next year you may not make any trips to the stage as I've seen that before also. You've had a busy and challenging season. Maybe next year you'll back it off a bit.

Aint that the truth. Last year our N/B champ could'nt be beat, had a killer car, killed the tree, won the points and the huge MBA series they put together and won an additional $17K in product from all the major vendors...this year he could'nt get out of 1-3rd round to save his life
Personally in over a decade of racing i've never finished worse than 3rd for 8 yrs, then dropped to 5th last yr when i wanted to go faster and then to 7th trying to go faster yet this year which made me miss races...locally chasing points is a joke, the cash is where it's at for the day since that's what funs my season...but like you said, one year a guy can be on fire and the next have his season come crashing down around him...racing is cruel like that LOL!!
True, very true. 2005 (the year after going to Pomona) I didn't get on the stage at all. Last year I didn't qualify for Div V finals.
I probably will back off next year, primarily because I'm planning a major re-do of the '57. If I get the LS1/T56 running, I'll be running a new class again.
FWIW, the "smallest" class I competed in this year had 50 racers competing. Another had 64, the rest had 90-120 participants.

10.07, 10.06, 10.02..... just couldnt break 9's even tho i was trapping 137.7, 139.2, and 140.3 on that last run... Just need to get the car to launch harder
