Rear engine funny car

OK, this is so weird, I just have to share.

This is what almost looks like a firebird funny car. What makes it unique is that it's a rear engine funny car running in the AHRA. The driver's cage pokes out of the hood. I thought the altered look as a short wheel base rear engine car looked interesting but once they put the body on, it just looks so weird.

re: Rear engine funny car

That might be a corvette body but the nose sure looks like a firebird.

That thing is just goofy and scary looking. If the rest of the welds look like the ones on the headers, that's really scary.

Re: Rear engine funny car

I noticed those headers also. If you go to the web site www.backmotor.com and look at the specs, the chassis was custom built by Innovative Chassis.

I look at that as a simple rear engine dragster chassis that's been cut down to a 124" wheelbase. NHRA banned rear engine funny cars many years ago.

He's only running 1/8 mile but his times are equivalent to a high 8 second 1/4 mile pass with a mild tune.

He's down here by me somewhere. They had it out at Sunshine Dragstrip during the monthly heads-up madness event.

Burn-outs in the pits would get you thrown out of the tracks I've raced at.

Burn-outs in the driveway don't impress me either.

Guess it all fits together.

Just call it like itis:
Ugly as dirt
slow as helll for what it is
craftsmanship that we get to see is exactly like it runs, or why it runs what it does

Poor design, extremely poor execution, embarrasing ride no doubt. i'm sure he's happy with it since it's his, but IMO it's like a fat girl....dont let your freinds see ya with it LOL!!!! guys are running high 9's/low 10's with GM pick up truck crate engines with warranty in a few diggers....sure is'nt saying much for that car since it left like a turd and never picked up afterwards....think i'd part it out and put a plate on a door car, at least then it'd look better running the same times LOL!!

Re: Rear engine funny car

The reason the guy is running this car is because he was burned badly in his old front engine funny car. So he built this. The current body he is running is an '84 'Vette.
