Need a drag car for a starter.

Well that $1000 Dart is pretty cheap for now. But I can't stand the cost and availability of parts of anything but for a SBC. I really want to build up a 350 if I could and use this as my second car for a drag car. They are pretty much giving away 3rd gen's around here for 500-1500 for a car. $3000 for the nicer ones. Its pretty bad. Anyway if I got a car such as...
http://evansville.craigslist.org/cto/1292696280.html
And freshened up the engine, made sure everything was in working order. Plus Everything I know about my car will trade over to this one, and vise versa. Anyway what I am trying to say is if I got this car, stripped it for drag racing, rebuilt the motor(only if I have to), make sure everything runs fine...would this be a good starter drag car. Looking on craigslist the term "SBC" or "350" there are 100's of items. Looking for the term "360" (0 items) or "Mopar" (5 items that irrelavent to chrysler parts). /rant or whatever you want to call it.

Re: Need a drag car for a starter.

The type of car and how fast it runs means nothing. The majority of the drag racing you'll do is bracket racing. Speed means nothing. You can go out with a bone stock street car that runs a 16 second 1/4 mile and still win. It's nice to go fast but you only go as fast as your budget allows.

Start racing cheaply then upgrade as your budget allows. With a third gen, install SFC and get a set of slicks and go have fun. This is a third gen forum. We don't really care about the Dart and you'll get no advice on how it improve it for racing.
