is my 385 tpi setup any good? is yours better?

i have got a set up like this. 385 tpi in a 85 iroc. engine spec,s are 385 with 822 cast heads 76.cc chambers with 150 intake runners and 194 intake valve not sure about the exhaust but its stock. ported stock intake, stock tb and 24.lb injectors.
fuel pressure is at 46 p.s.i with a mild street cam pretty sure the spec,s for the cam are 212 intake and 216 exhaust dur@.50 and 488 lift. roller rockers and 9.5 to 1 compresson.
msd 8.5 wires shorty headers with 2.1/2 exhaust pipe into hooker aero chamber muffler with dual 2.1/2 tips. 3.42 gear with 245 55 R16 bf goodwrench tires.

ok now that were done with that here are my times as of --9/17/09

what i noticed is no matter what my 1/4 mile et my trap speed was 95 or 96 m.p.h
( i made 5 passes that night) and my motor quit pulling at about 4500 r.p.m in 3rd gear. hope this info helps. i would also love to break into the 13,s myself.
i started with 20 psi in the tires and stoped at 14 psi. my worst pass was my first and i launched it at 1900 rpm and was spinning tires for about 20 foot. my best pass i was at 14 psi launched at 1500 but had wheel hop when i hit 2nd gear.

please let me know what you got setup wise is it better or worse i would like to have a base line to go off of

i would ditch the intake. its just too small for that engine. (unless its going in a truck for towing) maybe swap to a stealth ram or single plane efi. or carb if its a track only car....

i would also ditch the heads and at least get a set of vortecs.
the cam is on the small side as well. i would bump it up to the 230-236 range.
the exhaust is tiny. a single 2.5" exhaust is too small for a stock 350.

honestly, if you just swapped to a dual plane carb intake/carb on it with a decent exhaust that combo should be at least right around 80mph in the 1/8.

Your ET really depends on traction. Street tires are always a poor choice for the dragstrip. With a 60' anywhere from 2.215 to 1.985, you can see why your ET is all over the place. MPH is a result of HP. Even if you spin off the line, the car should run roughly the same MPH as if it hooked up. When tuning, watch the changes in the MPH to see if the changes were good or bad.

I'd also ditch those 882 casting heads. They're boat anchors. Your TPI should work up to around 5000 rpm but those heads are really holding you back. You also need a bit more cam for that compression and gear ratio. That also means a converter with a bit more stall speed to get the engine rpm quickly into it's powerband.

Vortec heads are an inexpensive investment and are a better option than those 30+ year old castings.

i would love to have a better set of heads the 882,s i know are about the worst flowin head gm had--( if not the worst). i am a little worried about going to a bigger cam with a stock tune i have heard that a cam with to much lobe and not enough lsa will screw with the efi. i,am wondering how well and how much time i might pick up with a better set of heads. it,s mostly a street car i go to the track a couple times a year. but with at least a 383 setup i was a little heart broken not to break into the 13,s
but trust if i had a cam heads carb and intake and break in the low 13,s it would so happen

my 350 LT1 pulled 13-14" of vacuum with a 230/236 cam and ran 92mph in the 1/8 in my 3400lb 4th gen. stock heads. t56 trans with et streets. it went 89mph on bald 17" street tires. got 25mpg on a trip to the beach and drove great.

i have not done any tuning with the tpi computers, but if they suck that bad, i would ditch that too, in favor of a megasquirt or something.

look at it this way... a bone stock LT1 car runs 79-80, so a built 385 sbc should be running at least that fast, imo.
