1988 iroc-z rear end gears. Need some help guys

so i have bassically a stock 305 88 irocz except some new injectors and distributor wires and alot of sensors in the long run ill drop a 350 chevy ZZ4 crate moter in it . i was wondering what my gear ratio is right now and what i should change it to, to get better preformance i hear a 3.90 is good right now i have about 200 HP when ever i put the new moter in ill have 355. Thnks for your help guys

You have anywhere from a 2.73 gear to a 3.42 gear, depends on the trans and options the car had. 3.42 is a good gear, but with and automatic on the street i wouldnt go below 3.73. 3.90 is ok, but you wouldnt notice the difference between a 3.73 and a 3.90 on a mild street combo.

i agree. i loved my 3.73 on the street untill i whent to my new motor. cam didnt kick in till 2200 and i was cruising 60 @ 2000 so it kept surging. so anything with a mild cam 3.73's work great for it
