After a 9 month build and month or so of tuning, i felt good enough to try my luck at the race track today.
Setup is now a 401 twin turbo small block. T4 60mm turbos, 233/233 cam and victor EFI single plane.
PTC converter in the TH400, full manual valvebody.
Stock 10 bolt rear with 3.42's.
These runs were on 10psi boost. Soft launches due to no boost buildup on foot brake. Not sure why but it doesnt want to build anything. Brakes wont hold anyway. Still have some AE tip in hesitation I think, as i felt some initial hesitation on WOT. Oh well, not bad for shakedown passes.
Very good. Once you get everything dialed in you should be well into the 9's. By the way mighty nice of you to give those cars a head start. Awesome car you have.
time to add a removable chute. iirc i belive the rule is 135mph + u gota have one
u have drum brakes on the rear ??? if so do what i do use the brake + the handbrake when u stage the car should let u get on the throttle a bit more to build some boost

Camera quality isnt the best but you get the idea.
First run was my best run and I went abit easy off the line and short shifted a touch.
1.66 60
4.428 330ft
6.719 at 107.2 1/8
8.698 1000ft
10.37 at 134.29 1/4
Second run i launched harder and got a 1.60 60 foot, but blew the intercooler piping off so NO BOOST! car died out so i coasted out.
3rd run once again softer launch, 10.52 at 135.
4th run added 2 degree timing and shifted abit higher. It picked up a touch mph, to 10.43 at 135.46 mph.. not much of a gain tho.
Good runs! Car is a beast for hitting 10.3s on the first outing! That is unreal for a first pass, I am sure you have easy 9s with some more tune and a transbrake for sure. If not just another 2 lbs.
Wish I could have made a better outing myself, just a horrible track day for me all the way around, had a terrible headach as well.. . Figures the only vid I had of your car is when the intercooler pipe came off.
I guess I can not be to mad about mine, that clutch has 3 yrs of good track abuse on, and has held well.. It still holds, just can't take anymore powershifts.. I had thought I was feeling a hint of it on the street as of late - just really dissapointed it could not have held out for that pass!
justin, that thing is absolutely amazing. i love it...i want to do a turbo build now...but mine'll have to wait till after school is out. i'll deal with my n/a 6.0L build for now.

i would say i have around 3300 in my turbo setup fabbing it all myself and using cheaper master power turbos, but they work so far. Rest of the money is in the motor/accessories to make it all work, and that adds up quick
i don't know how much you changed your ve and timing table, but if you open one of the v6 bins that dig has posted up. he does some stuff in the low rpm and high kpa areas.
they say it helps spool times. i have only turned my supercharger thou. so i can't say
I think my AE tuning needs tweaked but i KNOW my under 101 kpa map area needs tweaked.
Since i adjusted my idle tuning my part throttle went to crap so it needs smoothed out.
When i blew off my cold side piping the car was PIG rich at 101 kpa map and ran like a turd.. so it needs tweaked.
I also think the main reason it isnt brake boosting is because I have a BOV spring designed for 10-13" vacuum and I create more like 15-17" at idle/closed throttle. So its bleeding off pressure I bet. I gotta order a new spring or shim my current one.
I did order a boost controller tho Gonna keep tuning this 10psi setup and then shoot for 12-14 to see what happens next time. 9's on pump gas would be sooo awesome
Turbo's are where it's at. What kind of money is involved with all the turbo stuff, intercooler and plumbing? Not including the shortblock.
I have been contemplating a Procharger and these damn turbo cars motivate me.
The single turbo setup I priced out was going to be around the 4000 mark... Might be able to do it cheaper though with building/making/modding more things myself and not getting a fancy boost controller. The turbo itself was still going to cost 1000-1200. Friend of mine is making insane power which he really can't use lol he's been burning up custom converters left and right or just blowing the tires off the whole 1/4 mile.

I should beable to crack 1.4's on a boosted launch I would think, so that should give me darn near 10.1's on ok tune. 2-3 lbs more should be doable on 93 oct gas, that will touch 9.9's easily I would think. Just dont see the 10 bolt handling it for very long
This is through the stock LS1 throttle body too. I wonder if I had 3.5" pipe going from intercooler to 90mm TB if I'd gain anything. I wouldnt think much since the manifold is probly getting all it can handle
My first pass they stopped me to check for helment/roll bar and firejacket. Yelled at me for not wearing my firejacket but my two passes over 135 they didnt say anything? haha
I dont want a 10 point cage in this car but if i want to enjoy the 9's I may be forced to turn this car into a race direction..if it aint already
Pretty sweet, something like this is EXACTLY what I plan to build when I graduate. on the brink being legal without all the race cage and nonsense. Mad power in a clean, disguised and drivable package. I find it interesting you work as some sort of turbine engineer, I'm assuming you're degree is in Mechanical Engineering? If so that's pretty cool, its what I'm taking. I can imagine the amount of homework that goes into a build like this, and there's tons of info on the net and in books, but is there anything you found outstanding that you would recommend to others to read?
haha old thread here but a good one. My first outing. I do work for a compressor manufacturer and yes mechanical engineering is my degree. It helps understand the concepts but you dont need it to understand turbos. YOu can learn alot on your own and in some books. There are a couple good books out there that help. Maximum boost and Turbochargers Performance Handbook are the two I read. The handbook one has some key formulas to calculate approximately what you need as far as boost/airflow/etc goes. Fairly accurate stuff. Other than reading a compressor map to size a turbo, it isnt all that complicated. I"m no expert but I"ve done alot of research on here and the turboforums.com. Good sites for information and you can get an idea of what others are running and mimic their builds if you want.
Before i started this project i knew little about turbo motors. I started thinking about it mid july 2008 before i even had nitrous on my 383. Idea fell apart for a month or so then I found a BBS designs manifold and bought it. I started researching in August or so and by November I had the plan to go twins. Learned a few things along the way and it all worked out. You can do this in a garage with basic tools and welder.
Time to revive an old thread. I was looking at videos on youtube and saw this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_vR8ImZpDI
is that you running 9.7xx @ MIR?? If so great job and now its time to update your signature lol
Yes that was me running 9.73 but I dont really want to count that one... that was an attempt to run high boost on race gas/pump 110/93 mix and it didnt work out well. Car didnt hit high boost like i planned and ran pig rich. I didnt tune for the race gas so it kinda fell on its face after 2nd gear. Plus i may have had a vacuum leak as I discovered a disconnected hose on my manifold while putting the car on the trailer after that run. Could have explained the lower boost.
I mean i was running 14 psi and ran 9.86 that day before that 9.73 run and i gave the controller a good 4 turns expected to see 18-20 psi... never did
Best the car has done in street mode pump gas only was 9.86 and did that at 2 different tracks. So until i beat that the sig remains pump gas only
