Finally broke the 9 second barrier this weekend. Went to Pittsburgh Raceway saturday and ran few 9 second passes on 14psi. THen off to Maryland International sunday and put down two 9 second passes before getting kicked out but it was last run of the day anyway
At PRP my first run did not hook at all and i missed second gear...in an automatic And blew reference vacuum line off my wastegate so it started to spike boost. 11.0 at 133 spinning all of first
Next run no changes, soft launch at 1.59 60 foot, running 6.45 at 111.8 in the 1/8, hitting 9.97 at 139.8 mph!
Last pass at PRP was my best but no vid, sorry. My friend Josh (Hotrod16105 on these boards) took a few pics of the car and a pic of the ET.
1.56 60'
4.1938 330'
6.372 at 112.56 1/8 mile
8.262 1000' 9.863 at 140.98 mph!
Pump gas 93 oct, no boost on launch, stock 10 bolt 2.73 gear! Havent even played with timing yet.
At MIR I went 9.86 at 139 on my first pass. Same tune as last 9.86. Have no 10pt cage and all the goodies for 9's so they told me to keep it in the 10's.
1.54 60'
4.16 330'
6.345 @ 112.27
8.247 1000'
9.861 @ 139.53 mph

Last pass of the night I put in some 110 oct to mix with my 93. Turned the controller to what i was hoping would be 18 psi. Added 4 degree timing, leaned it out just a bit and went for broke. Car launched hard but on the 1-2 shift car felt kinda dead to me. Stayed in it for a 9.73 at 141.98. I got back to the pits to find a vacuum line disconnected from the intake elbow so it was bleeding air. Think it popped off at the 1-2 shift but not sure. Logs show solid 16.5-16.6 psi across all rpms but fat 10.0 to 1 air fuel, not like my normal 11.4-11.5 runs at 14 psi and pump gas. Not sure what happened.
Car didnt like the quick guess at a race gas tune i suppose... But it sure felt like a good run at first. Just didnt seem to keep pulling on top end like I would expect for 16.6 psi.. figured 17 would get me 144mph
1.49 60 foot, foot brake to 3K, no boost on launch
4.083 330'
6.267 @ 112.5 1/8
8.150 1000' 9.739 at 141.98 mph 1/4
Thanks to Hotrod16105 for vids and trailering me down
87 TA also came down to race his car. Got a vid of that too. Thanks for the tools and generator to keep my battery charged
Kinda done for the year with it. I want to get on the dyno a few times to play with timing/air fuel and see how much power i can get out of it on pump gas and see how high on the boost i can get.
Need to fix some things.. has some slight oil leaks at the turbo drains and some other areas..think its pressurizing the crank case still and my vent system isnt working as good as it should. May go back to a PCV style system.
After I get the pump gas tune figured out, i want another try with that race gas and shoot for bottom 9's if possible. Transbrake and good rear would be necessary. I think it has it in it for sure. This may not happen for a good while since I'm moving and wont be taking the car with me as of yet.

justin that's GREAT! so is it safe to assume you have the 7.5" 10bolt ET/MPH record?
but what's this talk about moving and NOT taking the car with you?

Moving to texas and for the first year i'll be at an apartment so i dont know if i can have this car down here. Plus it wont pass any kind of inspection here and with turbos exposed like that, doubt anyone would pass it for money either
Someday if i'm still in texas i'll bring it down. May need to take a break from the street car thing and become a race car for abit
Is that the twin turbo kit off ebay? If so im in shock man! and a 10 bolt!! haha and i was worried about blowing mine running 13s! Congrats though, what trans and rpms are you running? Use the calculators on the thirdgen main page to see what gears you need, i could pull 160 in 3rd with 2.73s at around 5500 rpms. so if you only pull 5x-6x i wouldnt go higher than a 3.08 or a 3.2x
No its a home fabbed setup built by me. From what i see on my tach and my logs i shift around 5500 sometimes 5600-5700. I think thats too short for this motor and needs to go to 6000 where the cam will be near peak... I need to get on a dyno. Its got a TH400 trans and a 26" tire so 2.73's arent horrible but great for higher boost levels down the road
I agree with sticking in the low 3's for rear gear.. 3:08... 3:23.. Your making enough power with that 140x mph you don't need a tall gear. It's helping you plant the power and use the torque the engine makes.
AWSOME!

Congrats Justin! Was nice to see that car in action, I have no doubts that car has much more left in it.. As it sits I am sure you can get 50s in good air and some additional tune work, transbrake and some weight loss that car is deeeep 9s.. Siiick man!!

Now theres a quote i'll have to borrow to post on another site.lol Congrats again.

Yeah you figure i picked up 2 tenths just by getting the car to launch abit better by shimming my BOV spring to create almost 1 psi off the line. I tweaked some spots in the tune and picked up alot on the 60 from the first outing and i havent even tried playing with timing yet.... There has to be a good bit in this current pump gas tune on 12-14 psi, anywhere in there. I should tune it at this level and try again, rather than just throw more boost at it on a rough street tune
Orr, your times are very impressive. I remember when you where trying to break into the 12s with a near stock L98. I have enjoyed all of your topics and thanks for taking the time to post your results along the way.
Moving to houston, on the western side i guess. The wheels are weld prostars on the rear 15x8 and GTO spare 17x4.5 front runners with M&H racemaster skinnies

Thanks, the car sure has come a LONG way since then.

Hey man nice meeting you at MIR, your car is bad ***
Ditto, your car was running strong for the mods thats for sure! How did your last run go?
it was alright 12.31 I have a bad hesitation in the carb. it bogs real bad when i first floor it then comes back to life, if i can figure out why its doing that i think it should go a 12.0 but i definitely need to get some heads

sounds like something in the accelerator pump circuit...should look there first.
