re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
My wife wants to see our Camaro go the 1/4 this year. Maybe 14.xx.
Bigblock is a "hope" for this season but who knows- maybe...
Also, I like to read up TGO members track days--auto-x or drag-- it all says these 3rd gens are actualy good cars!!

bingo. No electronics, door cars only. A t-brake is the only thing allowed, and even it's not allowed in some classes. No delay boxes, no t-stops, no studder/spudder/pop pop, often no digital timing boxes allowed either.
ORSCA lifted the weight minimum for 6.00 this season though, a lot of guys complaining. I'm not a bracket/index guy, but I can understand why it would be a lot harder to "drive the stripe" in the 3200lb car vs a 2200lb car.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
exactly. i really want to make some ORSCA races, maybe i'll hit the one in Twiggs "Macon National Dragway". you gonna do any of that this year shaggy?

doubt it. I'll probably stick with OL632 for this year, and see how 10.5 pans out. 632 is in for most local events, plus replaced 10.5 for the monthly "heads up madness" event at St. Pete. - I'll be at the US Street Nationals in Bradenton the end of this month.

nice, anything at SGMP for you this year? i'd like to meet you honestly

Gonna play with my 4th trans am more this year i guess but its my daily driver and only car so cant break it want to see if it gets high 12's with stock stall/2.73 gears with the newly added headers/catback/LS6 intake. running 9's to 12's now...doesnt make sense going backwards? haha

not likely. My budget is too limited to run much out of state stuff right now. My parent's have been out of work for over a year now, I've been stuggling to not only keep my wife and myself a float, but to also do what I can for them.
The ORTC's "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" will be a huge event there for sure though. We may at least try to head up for a day or two and spectate there.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
I used to race super gas years ago in a corvette, was neat back in the day....now with throttle stops and all the electronics to me it's all B/S don't even care to watch them....leave fall on their face on the stop...sputter ...then take off..what a freakin joke !!!!!

x2. I grew up around my dad super comp racing. He dialed it in via valve lash and timing. People will never pay to watch t-stop/spudder box racing, it's just too boring to watch. Most pectators don't even understand it, and likely never will.
They just annouced OL632 being added on to a ORTC event @ SGMP in April/May. We'll see what the bank says then, lol.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
It's not racing....just a damn video game !!!! who cares that you can run 4 9.900's and a 9.901 on 004 light BFD !!! you won by figuring out the box/stop combo....leave the boxes off and lets race !!!!
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
So how is that different from me changing my dial in from run to run and still running the number? I pump in the weather conditions just before a run and the computer tells me what the car will run.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
it's not. his whole point is that nobody wants to WATCH what you do

re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
I don't class race. I don't like racing limitations. I go as fast as I can afford and do whatever modifications I want to the car. I still have a fair and equal chance of winning against any other vehicle I get paired up against.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
down around my area the street index is the best class to watch and drive. we have 6.50 and 7.50 1/8 and our car runs 7.30. how i slow it down is driving. use brakes throttle and hope for the best, yea we could slow it down closer but we usually bracket race so why throw the car off. its a blast to drive and look good when you win to.

Like Many People, I Hope just make it to the track.
My 89 Firebird "FireBee" ran a extremly fast 16.48 with 359xxxkm on the clock. Anything after the 14's id be happy with. Now Just need to neither built my '65 'Vette 327 or just 'borrow' my dads Aluiminum Headed 350, or take the engine out of my 81 Camaro (350, Weiand Alu intake, Holley 750DP, cam, older (70's) heads, ACCEL HEI SuperCoil). Then We can have some fun.....hehehe
And get my 200-4R behind whatever i get and rebuilt and/or replace the rear gears (2.73 or 3.23? both need rebuilting)
Regardless, I WILL NOW RUN 16.48 EVER AGAIN!

I have no qualms with using whatever electronics you want in a typical open bracket class. Do it by engine, electronics, driving, whatever flips your skirt up.
Heads-up index on the other hand, you are given an number and that's what you're all shooting for. Anything under is out. 7.00 is "hot rod", 6.50 is "pure street" and 5.50 is "outlaw index"; 6.50 & 5.50 are on a pro tree. - Just a couple weeks ago I watched a guy run a 5.501 with a .008 light on a 5.50 index and get beat. Heads-up, no electronics, not studder/delay, t-stop, just run what you brung. That's pretty cool to watch even just from the stands.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Not to draw our "goals" thread further off topic but this is why they have different classes, different strokes for different folks. We have virtually no spectators at the bracket races we run and I understand that. That having been said, everyone loves watching heads up racing (myself included) but honestly, in true heads up racing, whoever has the most money pretty much wins, thus I could never afford to go and compete in heads up racing. Index racing is a nice compromise between the two, though at my home track they don't run index races.

X-2
Saw two cars run all out nose to nose from 0 - 1320 ft. Everyone stood up to see who took the win. Left lane posted 8.49 for the loss and Right lane took the win with a 8.51. Killer racing right there!
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
yeah, that 8.50 stuff ya'll have up there is super cool. i want to run that kinda stuff one day. you can do it on basically a competition liscence, and a 10pt rollcage...obviously there is a small hand-full of other stuff too, but not like trying to run under 8.50...sfi certed chassis...that's for the birds

re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Yes you do, once you run a 9.99 ET or quicker then no more racing until you get a license and/or appropriate equipment.. Now in the real world it's kind of up to the drag strip manager whether they want to cite you for it or just tell you to slow down and not run the number again. Of course there's some places that'll basically let you run whatever you want without regard to the rule book. That's a huge liability to the drag strip manager though, if any kind of accident happened that required documentation then they can say goodbye to being an NHRA certified track.

I ran .02 quicker than I was supossed to the last few months of the season last year at my regular track. The other track that is within driving distance, will shut you down. If you run faster than you are supposed to, they call you to the tower after the pass and tell you about it. Do it again and your done for the season, there. I know I can get another .02 out of my setup, with some more tunning. But the cost assocated with it isn't worth it + I can't get a NHRA license, bad ticker. + it's not right to run under when everybody else is complying with the rules. I really felt guilty when I accually won a S/Pro race towards the end of the season, but not quilty enough to give the money back. What ever car I run this season, it will be legal for the bracket.

local tracks here are no assisted throttle stops (air/electric)
i have a homeade deal with a nut welded to it.
keep a carriage bolt with 2 locknuts on it and adjust it accordingly.
i run all out in 6.50 index with 40-100 pounds in the car depending on weather. use the stop for 7.0 racing.
my goal this year is to win more money than i did last year. and to make the car faster, which in turn will require me to work harder on keeping the car slower if that all makes sense.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
I'd like to make my goal from last season of running consistent 9.0's, and add in there to not break things like happened a few times last season to major parts. Would also be nice to win the Pinks All Out that I'll be competing in late in the season.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Well looks like I will be running the same engine combo as previous season but for once I can finally put the power to the ground. Was only able to run one race last year with the new suspension and this year I will finally have a good baseline to work off of. Hope to meet my goal of 9.9X with a street driven hyd. cam (non roller) motor.

finish intake install
New trans
new posi and or rear
best tune as possible
very low 13s but hope for 12.999 if the 1/4 mile reopens here like i`ve heard it might.Otherwise im stuck with a crappt 1/8th mile or a closer but shorter than 1/8th track. Its atleast an hour drive to a decent track.

Oh wait, and the money to do this all with lol.
I wish I was only 1 hour away from a track. I drive over 2 hours one way to get to a strip.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
Like they say,"it could always be worse"thats a bummer.I just dont know if I could do that very often. If the old Lena 1/4 track reopens here it will be a 20 minute drive.Or the 10-15 minute drive to the 550` track. How and why they did that and have sanctioned races there I`ll never know.
re: What are your goals for the 2010 racing season? and your failures...
i'm definitely blessed...20 mins from a nice 1/4mile track where they have NHRA events, 20 mins from a nice 1/8mile track where they host lots of ORSCA and other nasty outlaw style events, got a handful of outlaw 1/8mile tracks within an hour...atlanta is 2 hours-ish away, and south georgia motorsports park is 2 hours-ish in the other direction...i live smack dab in the middle of GA, and i can hit drag strip in just about any direction i wanted to go in within 2 hours.

This will be my fourth time over there and I'm getting rather tired of going over there. Fortunately this time we're going to Afghanistan, but it ain't too much better. I can't wait to get back and race this car down by Nashville at the local TN region solo2.

Well after not meeting ANY of my goals last year, I decided not to make any goals for this year (too many other irons in the fire). If I finish it enough to make it to the track I will be happy. hmmm maybe I can call it Lowered expectations racing........... just a thought.
Note to self ....never tear car #1 apart until car #2 is ready

After a freshen up and upgrades on the T200 tranny, fix & freshen the motor and a few small modifications to the car it hit the track for it's first outing last month. Still running in G/SA I had hoped to get it into the tens. Thurs and FRi were a struggle to get it to hook, new slicks fixed that Saturday and ended up with a 10.98 @ 119.xx. Needless to say I was quite happy with how it ran.
