Road America track rental Oct 23rd & 24th, 2010.
Figured I'd post this up here to see if anyone wants to get in on this.
Midwest F-body Association's bi-yearly track rental is coming up. The club rents it twice a year for 1 weekend. Several hot-lap sessions with a drivers meeting before and after to discuss and learn.
For those like me who don't feel their brakes are up to the job there's also a 60 minute touring session each day with a speed limit of 70mph, but plenty of room turn HARD in the corners.
Even if you aren't interested in running a hot-session, or touring session (I'm def. getting in on the Touring sessions) there are also Instructor ride-alongs (Instructor takes you out in their own car) and its also a cool day to see the crazy built cars that show up to this event.
I went last year without my car, volunteered my time for both days and had a blast just working the grid and hearing the cars rip past at full song. My fuel pump quit on me just before the rental or I would have had it there. Now i've got to try and get my LS1 brake swap, T56 swap, and Heads/Cam swap in before I go in October.
I got some awesome tag-along rides from a few instructors and a friend.
One of the ride I got was with a Viper SRT-10 built with intake/exhaust mods, slicks, and full aero package. Entering the kink at near 150mph and hearing the unsilenced V10 bouncing off the barriers, deafening me was awesome.
An instructor took me for a ride in his stock C6Z. It was amazing to see how planted that car was. Near 165mph in the straights (7/8ths of a mile) and he was hauling it down for the first turn. Awesome driver as well as an awesome car made for my favorite ride of the day.
I also took a ride in a 2002 Camaro SS that was stock. Its amazing to see just what these cars can do with a competent driver, he knew exactly where the limit was.
There are tons of video's on Youtube, just search for MFBA Road America.
Every car is welcome, there was everything from Civics, to 60's 911 Porsche's, F-bodies, Vettes, Vipers, and even a 1000hp Twin Turbo Ultima GTR. The pit area was Nirvana.
Won't post all of the information, but you can find the rest of it here.
