Pour out a 40oz for my IROC-Z

Had this car since I was 16... At this point it looks like it wouldn't even be worth trying to fix. All windows and t-tops are shattered and the roof is smashed in big time. It'd be cheaper to just find a new car to put it's drivetrain into.

In a strange way it's probably a good thing this happened because the car wasn't exactly the safest thing on 4-wheels. It was one clean pass away from running 9's and it's only safety equipment was the factory seat belts.

yeah there's like some tropical storm passing up the east coast. It's been pretty windy and rainy all day but nothing too crazy. Just bad luck.

We'll see but worst case scenario I'll part the car out and that should give me enough dough to buy a roller. Probably not another 3rd gen unless it's a really good deal. I kind of have my eyes on either an RX7 or an S10 to drop my drivetrain into.

The sucky thing is that I usually don't park the car there and I also usually drive it to work every day even if it is raining but today I hopped into my other car

In all honesty my car is only nice looking at certain angles from a distance. Up close it's pretty rough looking. It had the original paint and interior which has all seen much better days. White paint hides a lot in pictures.

That sucks man. My condolences. A buddy lost his T/A two winters ago when his carport collapsed on it. He has since walked away from the hobby.

Luckily the chassis was nothing special so you can pick up another clean roller and maybe add the proper safety equipment this time around. Hopefully the insurance company sends you a fat check and luckily the drivetrain wasn't hurt, that's where the money in these cars is at.

Man, glad it is a third gen, so easy to find another, so if you heart lies with the rest of us and you wanna go a bit faster, there is a 82-90 firebird that is lighter and more aerodynamic calling your name to get even faster by cutting weight from the factory! LOL

Damb, sucks to see this kinda stuff. - Homeowners insurance won't touch it, so it's up to whatever coverage you had on it and/or what you can part it for.

Man, I hate you guys for saying stuff like this cause it starts to hit me

...I bought this car using money I saved up for over a year working a part time minimum wage job in high school. I hadn't so much as changed oil before buying it so I've learned a lot along the way. I got the speed bug back then after a friend of mine introduced me to the philly street racing scene... I remember Fast 383's old "Tweekd" Monte, my buddy Will's (local guys know "malibu2slow") brown Malibu, The GN motor convertible IROC, 1QWIKZ's old primered Camaro... Lots of other cars that all inspired me to go fast.

In the end it's just a car and it can be replaced... I change my mind more than I change my underwear about what I wanna do though. At the moment I'm thinking I'll part out the body, sell the dana 44, and wheels which should all net me at minimum $2000. I've always had a fondness for 1st gen S10's and I see them all over the place in the sub-$1000 range so that's my most likely choice. I'd like to build something a little more mild and daily drivable so I'd probably take the motor apart (it's due for a freshening anyway) and rebuild it with a smaller cam and less compression. I think even with a milder motor I can run in the lower 11's on motor in an S10 considering they're at least 500lbs lighter than my IROC.

...Then again, if I happen to stumble across a clean and very cheap f-body I'll scoop it up and just swap everything but it seems everyone wants a fortune around here for 3rd gens even in worse condition than mine..

Thanks for the props on the Tweekd Monte and I drove the GN powered Iroc alslo. That was my buddy Mikes.

I was serious about selling my car because I have an opportunity to by a TTA roller. It would be ready for you to transfer everything over into. Your wheels, rearend, fuel system, headers, motor, trans, T/A and all. The car will Cert to 8.50 no problem. I have a reciept for Chassis work for $2500 from 1/10. The cage is done very right. Car is very presentable. I will sell the car for $3500.
PM me if interested.

Have a pic with the tree removed? From the pics it looks like you got "lucky" and have only have roof damage, but we all know thats not the case. If you were close I'd let you have my '89 RS roller, or at least let you cut the roof off. I almost lost my car twice and seeing this reminds me of how much my car means to me, no matter how big a pain in the butt it wants to be! At least its still there and thats all that counts.

All the damage is in the roof but I don't have a garage or any sort of experience in fixing something like that so it'd cost a lot more than the car is actually worth to have someone fix it right. Once you take out the engine, transmission, rear, and wheels it's just another ol' ratty f-body that isn't worth much.

Im gonna pour out a couple for that Iroc!!! My suggestion would be chop that top and make that bad-boy a convertible without a lid! It reminds me of my first Camaro... It was white like that, had Ttops, but was only a RS. My cousin "borrowed" it after he found my title and STOLE my baby from me. Now I have a 92RS, painted purple though, that is making it's way to my heart after 2weeks.

Re: Pour out a 40oz for my IROC-Z

Update... Came across this. It's an 89 that is almost identical to mine. Been sitting for years but the body is very straight with very little rust, and it's pretty much all there except for the motor. Even though I didn't really want to build another turdgen, I saw this and couldn't resist. Should be pretty easy to splice the good parts off my car onto this one and be back running by next season.

Thats sweet! Lets see a side by side of them! Are you going to add some safety equipment to this one or just run it sleeper style?

It'll probably be slower than the old one because I'd like to keep all the stuff it currently has... the stock hood, wheels, air conditioning, and maybe even see how long the 700R4 lasts if I can find a converter for the right price. I might even see what kind of times I can run with the 2.77 rear since i've always gotten a kick out of seeing how fast I can run in these cars with all the "crap" parts so this should be fun.
