Good idea to run some sort of hood retention with a fiberglass hood, too easy to strip out the fiberglass and yank that hold down out. Seen a few hoods at the track blow open due to this, not sure if it's a rule....if it is, it's not enforced often.

I've never seen such a rule. You can use a factory fiberglass hood that uses OEM hinges and latches and it doesn't require hood pins. You could also buy a bolt on replacement that also uses OEM latches.
The main reason for using hood pins or Dzus fasteners is to remove all the excess weight of a factory latch or hinge system.

yea, my WS6 has a factory one, and it seems that there are a lot of exceptions for the rules for factory pieces. I just put a bolt on on my '87 and kind of like it looking clean without pins or other latches, but could have sworn there was something about it.
May end up having to run pins, I don't know that I have room to keep the factory latch.

Re: 'glass hood & hood pins?
My factory latch is long gone. I run the typical hood pins on both sides but also run 2 Dzus fasteners across the front to help keep it sealed up better. The scoop grabs a lot of air at 100+ mph. I can see the back of the hood lift about 2" by mid track. It's still attached to the factory hinges so it won't go anywhere.

Re: 'glass hood & hood pins?
my SS hood came apart the top piece of fiberglass separated from the bottom and flew off at 140 I talked to hawks about maybe it was a bad hood and they said it was to old and no pins
IT got some serious air too and landed on the side of the road without a scratch (weird) I rebonded it and pinned it

Is there an easy way to keep the hinges and pin the back?

Re: 'glass hood & hood pins?
i have pins in place of the stock hood bumpers just behind the headlights, and have no issues with cracking on the car.

Re: 'glass hood & hood pins?
What hood do you have? do you have a piece of hose or something on the pins to act as a bumper in that spot anyway? I don't really know for sure if it would or not, I obviously haven't tried it but I know that my bolt on harwood is already showing some cracking in the gelcote above the hood hinges and I don't even have any struts installed. I kind of expect it to try to crack anyplace where you might end up with some flexing.
The easy answer would be to put 2 sets on where all 4 stock bumpers are, but I don't particularly want to deal with 4 of them.
