Project 10sec lq4 91rs

After my engine threw a rod at the nmca lsx shootout here in Indianapolis I decided to go a completely diffeent route. The plan is to keep everything from the engine back the same. That includes th400 trans with brake. Coan 8" 4500 stall . Mosier 9"rearend with 4.11 gears. And full Umi suspension. This setup paired with my sad carbed 388 yielded a best of 1.55x 60ft 11.52x @116.xx mph. Car hooks very well with the 28x10.5s mickeys.

I am going to go step by step with my engine build this will be a extremely budget engine. I will keep a running total rounded up to the nearehist dollar of all the expensive. This will include all the junk I sell that is salvageable off of my old engine which is mostly all savable.

Engine plan.

It happened at the mnca lsx shootout in indy. in october. I was running true street class. On the 20 mile cruise I notice oil pressure as low as 20psi at idle(usually around 40). Went ahead and decided to run it anyway. Didn't want to be disqualified fir popping the hood or stopping. Ran the first pass and noticed some blowy coming out if my cowling hood. Figured my valve cover breather fell off ir something dumb. So I ran my second pass and half way through first gear it felt like I was pulling a trailer. Then all a sudden it go quiet. Looked in the mirror andsaw smoke. Lol it was toast. #7 rod out the pan. Had to trailer it home for the first time ever. Engine had 5 yrs of abuse. Never had heads off or pan. Upon tear down it looked like oil pump pick up feel off. It wasn't welded.

Re: Project 10sec lq4 91rs

got some parts in the mail today!!!

ARP Rod bolts, Sealled power plasma molly rings, sealed power std. rod and main bearings. i now have everything to complete my shortblock minus the oil pan pickup tube etc. i adjusted my running total of parts in first post as well

right now i am out of pocket $196.00 and will have a complete short block with floating wrist pins and forged pistions. now thats a budget shortblock for sure!!!!!

also threw in a pic of the last pass my car made before it blew up...... looks like it might be time for a drag bar got a pretty good amount of twist going on.

Re: Project 10sec lq4 91rs

Update: had a change of plans. Instead of sending my heads out to bes to get cnc job done. I decided to keep it local and have mike Stark at cfm performance here in indy. Getting heads milled. 035" competition valve job. Bowl intake and exhaust port work. Special attention to the l92/ls3 exhaust port. Www.cfmperformance.com.

Also going to have a cam speced from eps this week

Re: Project 10sec lq4 91rs

Mike Stark will do an awesome job on the port work. He has ported several sets of heads for me.

Thats good to hear for sure. I will post up some flow numbers when I get them back. Should have them back late next week hopefully. Gonna be interesting since everyone in the ls world is all about cnc port work. Gonna see how a good ole hand job will stack up

What was your source for the pistons? I've tried searching, can't seem to find anything. I'm not doing as radical a build, but I'm looking for forged 6.0l pistons with the L92 valve reliefs.

I don't know where the op got his from, but you can get them straight from the manufacture or through a dealer like Texas speed.

http://www.flatlanderracing.com/autotec-chevy-01.html. part number 1000592 .
stock stroke stock rod length stock compression height. Floating wrist pins. Takes 1.5mm 1.5mm 3.0mm rings. Flatlander racing was the cheapest I found them. At 490.00 plus shipping. Got a quote from racetech (founded by je pistions Main guy.) was quoted $800.00 for the pistons. Then he told me to order through flatlander racing lol

Ordered a cam from geoff at eps. He spec'd out 235*/251* @. 050" .621"/.632" on a 110+4. Said it should peak around 7200rpm

Should be here in a week hopefully

Got two options as far as carbs. Go. Option 1 850 proform carb on pump gas. Which I've been told by various people will be more than likely maxed out. Option 2 quick fuel 1050 carb. Setup for e85.

sell both and buy a bigger 4150 carb by them. I run the 950, on a 408 ls motor we run a 1050.

The 1050 is 4150 base. Might convert it back to gas

Re: Project 10sec lq4 91rs

Got a hell of a deal from Sk Speed (MikeFSKSPEED member on ls1tech ).

Msd 6ls 6010. And edelbrock victor jr intake l92 /ls3 for $ 629.00 shipped. Saved almost 100.0

bucks with them over summit racing.

Got headbolts. Cometic. 040 gaskets. And ls7 lifters on their way from Texas speed.

Got cam on the way from eps

Heads getting finished up at cfm performance.

Just playing the waiting game.

Damn bank account took a hit this week lol. Updated my budget in OP.

Ya our 1050 is a 4150 carb too, didn't pick up anything with a dominator and conversion plate on the intake.

I actually just built the same motor as you. 05 LQ4 .030 Mahle L92 pistons, callies rods, stock crank. LS3 heads ported and milled .040". EPS cam with the exact same specs from patrick G. Ill be running the Victor Jr with a holley hp ultra 850. I didnt see, but what tranny are you running? Mine will see alot of street time and has a t56/moser 9" 4.30 gear in it. Sick looking build

Th400 with a brake. 4500 8"converter. 9" 4.11 gears.

Exact seams specs? That's crazy lol the only thing I different in our engines is that you took extra. 005 off heads. What head gaskets you running? What rpm you plan on shifting at?

Yep same exact specs. Patrick G spec'd it to me. I am running a set of Cometic .040" head gaskets for a ls3 motor. I plan on shifting at 7400+, but it will really just depend where the dyno says the power drops off. Ill be hitting mine with a healthy shot of nitrous too. Its been balanced and plasti gauged when I assembled it as well.

Actually now that I actually looked at your cars description, we have basically the same car other than the different names. Mines a formula with namual everything on it. Did you keep the powersteering or drop it like me?

Putting an s10 box in before I drop engine in. I am running. 040 cometic as well. Calculator shows 11.25:1 compression. When are you hitting the dyno gonna give me a pretty good idea what I will put down. Mine wont be dynoed.

Also are you having any porting done to the intake? I sent mine out yesterday to be matched to my heads.

I'm not sure when I will be dynoing the car. I really wanted the mast intake, but I can't justify 1500$ for that. So I'm going to have the victor jr ported, I just don't know anyone good at porting it.
