New best of 12.88 and a new best 60 foot time of 1.76. Pretty happy v6 thirdgen owner today. Redlighted the pass but when i saw the time it made me forget about the red light.

Same tune. I added a line lock so that i dont get those rear brakes hot. It was a tad hard before to keep the rpms up at the line to spool the turbo but this morning i got a good combo. The car was spooling before I ever left the line. Now I can hold it easily at the line and to boot it was about 65 degrees out this morning which always helps.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Well long over due for a update on this thead section.
Over the winter I went the hybrid V6 route. Basically its swapping on the DIS, alum. heads, intakes and basically a top end off of a gen 3 60 degree V6 motor. I did this because no matter what I did to those iron heads they were just choking my car at higher rpms along with the terrible intakes.
So I made tube headers, I got custom pushrods, ported the heads a little, got a big intercooler, still have alky but its not wired in right now, bored the block, and rebuild the engine.
I tuned it for a few days adding a good amount of fuel over last years tune. I took out a few degrees of timing, then took it to the track. Running about 13psi of boost, which is about what i ran last year also.
First pass out ran a 12.49@110mph. That was awsome for a 1600-1700rpm launch and a high 1.90s 60 ft compared to my 1.7x 60ft times last year when I was launching at 2500Rpms and making making boost at the line.
Went a 13.87 the second pass as let off at the 1/8 mile. That pass 1/8 mile was a 8.08@87mph. Then went into eliminations and lost in the 2nd round because of a horrid RT. And on that pass broke out with a new best time of 12.45@111Mph. You know how it goes if you race a guy with a good RT and right on his ET...... so my bad light made me break out as I never caught him.
To say the least the car was consistent at least on the runs I went full tilt the whole track.
Added the 12.49 slip and video.
Gained a few points at Milan as im in the points (Spt)

I saw your car actually. I race in points at Milan as well. I noticed your car looked familiar and heard the turbo going down the track, and was wondering if I knew who you were. If you're there this Sunday maybe we will be able to talk some. Nice job by the way on the new times and picking up some points at Milan! Milan's got a real tough bracket crowd.
Edit: I actually think I might have run you during time trials, lol. My number was G394, I will look through my passes to see if we did.

There are alot of third gens out there. Ive been racing at norwalk since I could drive but moved up twards toledo and milan is so much closer.
At the mpg... not exact but arround 20mpgs on the highway. The gearing doesnt help when driving 70 on the interstate

Nope no 2 step. DIS now so I sold the digital 6+ to go twards the winter build.
I bet I saw 10 third gens out there at least.
I dont think I have to worrie about a cage this year but yea never know I guess. I just hope to continue to run those mid and hopefully low 12s on a constain basis.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
A little bummed out that Milan's timing system died on Sunday. Got the 1st round win and to be honest felt I could of made it farther, instead they had to cancel the race.
Added the slip of the first rd win. On the brakes at the end but it would have been on pace with the dial in if I would have stayed on it.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Well too bad it wasent a points weekend because I made it to the finals in sportsman at Milan. Was a great day. Lost in the finals because I really messed up at the line. But got some cash, trophy, and had a good time. Cant beat that. My 60fts could be a tad more consistent, but I seem to push it more when im in time trials and I have got to learn to launch at the same exact Rpm every time down to the T.
Heres the 4th round win. Car was pretty consistent considering it was 85 and the DA was moving alot. SPT191. This pass got me to the finals.
Heres the first time trial, when it was cooler. 21xx DA

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Its a turboed V6. So its laggy off the start. Last year I had some decent 60fts but was horrid on the tree because I was pushing the car so hard.
This year Ive noticed that If I just launch at 1900 rpm, it is much easier to get good Rts each and every run. Last year I was launching at 2500rpm and got 1.70 60fts on different engine set up though.

yeah i was guessing so, had seen some slips from before with a 1.7x 60ft as you mention but didnt know the full story.. any plans/ideas for some kind of anti-lag or transbrake or whatever to make it spool better off the line?

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Well now that I have DIS ignition i have to either spend a ton to get a 2 step box for a antilag or tune it into my ecm. But then again I race sportsman. At the tracks im at and the newer nhra rules, dont let you run them anyways. I do want to tune in a way to knock out timing at certaint areas though to see if I can hold the car back easier at higher rpms, so that once I go WOT it spools faster. Once I can do that im sure I can knock down the 60 foot times and hopefully be consistant.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
I was thinking the higher 60ft came from launching at lower rpm and correspondingly required spool up time after that. So I'd think maybe retarding timing a bit in these areas would help with spool up, but not sure what that's got to do with "holding the car back easier at higher rpms"?

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Well if I knock out timing in certain areas it will make the car have less power and then let me hold it at the line better at the rpms i want.
Last year with a dizzy, I had a msd 6+ box with a 2 step. I messed with it a few time and just retarding the timing alone at the line I could hold the car at higher rpms.(I never used the 2 step at the track) I only retarded the timing because I got some 1.70s 60 foot times out of that. Thats pretty good I thought for a 13.0s car at the time.
So then when I would let off the brake and go WOT using the timing retard wired to the brake switch, the timing would go back to normal and the car would take off and the boost would immediatly come in as my rpms were higher then the boost threshold of the turbo.

Well it took me some time but i finally got the right combo going on this car to make 11 second passes. Ran a 11.97 11.88 and a 11.70 sunday. A tad inconsistant but then again i was there working a starting line launch to try to get a good 60 foot time and finally i have made a few good ones.
Heres a slip and video. Not too bad for a V6.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
the data playback is slightly off time about .3-.5 of a second ahead of the run
he needs a converter really bad , looking at the datalog itself hes only seeing a 4-600 rpm drop on the shift in every gear , that supposed to be a like 2,200 rpm stall converter ,its going to over 3,500 on launch
a 9.5 inch 3k stall and th350 would do that car wonders , or a 2004r with a stage rite manual transbrake and a 3,500 stall

I definitly need to work on drive train issues this winter.
The converter is advertised at 2800-3000 flash rpm. Buts a El cheepo that needs to go.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
I'm going to try to go back to the track in a few weeks. Hopefully I can learn how to constantly launch it like this.
1.5x 60 foot times are definitly possible with the 2 step but ill be honest....that would scare me. I'm not sure how much that 10 bolt can take before it let's loose.

u should be ok to around 1.55 60's i think orr was going 1.5 with his, the more wieght u can get out of the car the longer the rear will survive as well
having the lower numerical gears also helps with it living

Orr went 1.5x's (maybe even 1.4x?) with large 2.73 gears, that's one of the main reasons it lived that long. i've known a few guys to go mid 1.3x's, but that's the exception, not the rule, lol. getting the car lighter will definitely help though.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Well Ive got 3.73s in the back. So there not too small.
I just dont want to trash the rear end if it is a gamble when i could sell it and go for a better rear end. Even though I really have no idea what the rear end is worth. I picked it up off a friend that went to a ford 9inch. I got a good deal on it.
I got richmond 3.73s Moser 28spl. axles, c clip elims, and a alburn lsd. Id had to make it into a blender...
But the one thing that you guys are pointing out is the weight of the car. I can definitly lighten it up. Its still a full interior and there is a few things i can do to shead a little weight and still maintain the streetability of it. Last i checked car weighted 3260 race weight. So about 3080 without me in it.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Yea i got them 2 years ago. Im a bracket racer at heart. I always believe in having those puppys in any sorta fast car with slicks exspecially when your making a crap ton of passes.
The rear end came with disk brake backing plates. So when i took out the axles to toss on my drum set up, i figured it was time to install the c clip elims. I got them from a racer a few years back in hopes that one day the lil v6 could use them.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Update.
So far this year has went well. Cars running damm good right now.
Ran all 11.6xs yesterday at the track. I won 2 rounds thankfully. My rt are a bit outta wack but my 60 foots are pretty consistant and so is the car.
Went 11.64 11.66. 11.69 and based off 1000 foot the 1st round pass should have been 11.63. The final round loss I just let off at about the 1000 ft(11.76 1/4 et)
1st round took a .001 rt to a guys bad light, peddled and even mashed the brakes to ensure the win knicking off 18mph at the traps.
2nd round had a bad redlight but so did my opponent who left first so I got the win.
3rd round I red lighted again..... so that was the end of the day.
Update on the car it's now got a borg warner s300sx3-66 turbo and th350 reverse manual VB and a 3500 freakshow converter.
60 foots aren't the fastest but we're consistant and the big mph at the top end likes to mess with people who think I'm late on the tree. And I really need to get my rts down as it's messing me up.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Thanks matt. It sure is a fun car. Now i just need to find the tree and get that down pat.
Its too fast to sand bag a 12.00 in sportsman class this weekend at night under fire at Norwalk. I really dont want to tune it either to make it slower as i finally have it dialed in just right, so im going to finally use my 2 step and race pro. I went from being one of the fastest cars in my class to one of the slowest.. But it fun. At my normal track (milan) The cut out is 11.50 for sportsman, so i never had a issue there being too fast. But I grew up next to norwalk and raced there since i was just a 16 old driver. So its always fun to make it there for the biggest spectator race of the year, and be a part of the racing.

thats awsome man ur going to have to tune for the 2-step launch though , get it tuned good and run it out the back door and hope u dont get kicked out for not having a cage
i would personally leave the car alone and run the 35 shot for the entire run not just out of the hole

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Well if i use the 2 step im not going to use the n20. Its too much work to wire the nitrous in with the 2 step. The n20 is just working off a master arm, hobbs switch to turn it off(8psi), and a wot switch. The car wont run any faster then 12.20s with no n20. 2.1 60 foots.. so i could still race sportsman but running 12s isnt fun.. haha
I dont like the idea of running the n20 all the way down the track as it is tuned in just right finally without the n20. And right now im running 1.79-1.81 60 foots with 50hp. I upped it a few weeks back from the 35 shot. All motor outta the hole is bad and the stall converter doesnt stall nearly as high with a all motor v6 compared to having boost behind it or a 50 hp shot.
I am still in the air about the 2 step. But the pro class there is as competitive as it gets and i need to have dead on consistan 60 foot times. I did good last week but im not sure if that was luck or skill... i had a 1.79 1.80 1.81 and a 1.81. With 60s like that i can be competitive. Bottle pressure was dead on 950 each time though so that helped alot.

Re: Finally made it into the 12's at last!
Thanks
Well the weekend ended in a 1st round break out.
It was fun though. I didnt run a 2 step. They did have the top 8 people in each class in a run off along with the top 8 Rts in each class. Well pros cut off for the worst out of the top 8 was a .001 bulb! Yea i didnt get that luck to make that cut to say the least but it was still fun to race some 9 and 10 second cars and sorta keep up with them.
We time trialed on Saturday when it was literately 90*s out. I ran a 11.92 and a 11.94. So then we had the first round elimination on Sunday. It was 65*s out at 8am. I figured i may run a bit faster but I didnt anticipate a 11.76 and i was peddling then on the brakes bad. Comparing 1000 fts to prior passes it was on a 11.69 pass all day long.
Im not use to racing a 10 second car so at the finish line I was patiently waiting for them to catch me with there MPH..... well they didnt, actually we both broke out. I hit them then he did too and sent me though the traps. Didnt help i had a .053 bulb to his .013. It was fun though and i got lots of compliments on the car since this is literally the largest one day drag racing event in the country. Night under fire at Summit Motorsports park(norwalk)
Here is a pic or 2 of the little v6.
In 2 weeks im heading to National Trails raceway for a 3 day weekend. Im getting married in a month and this is my bachlor party. Thats what i love to do so thats what me and about 10 bracket racers are going to do. Go grab some rounds at a track ive never raced at.

Well at the bach party it was full of fun. But on the racing side. I finally nailed down a sub 7.5 1/8 mile time, got a 11.59@119mph and nailed a 120mph trap speed when it was cool. In the day it was smoking hot. Terrible DA. I got some killer double 0 bulbs here and there but kept pushing it too much in elims in the pro class. Went .013 red .006 red. And really red on one time trial vs a friend. But it was 3 days of racing. 9 passes later and i was ready to head on home.
