for those who have or do use racing fuel... do you get better mileage or worse? going to use sunoco 110 octane and due to location i have to calculate the fuel i need, wont get more than i take and have no room to take extra any thing. thanks for any help.

i dont see why mileage would change much, really? not enough to worry about when your spending $100 for a tank full of race gas anyways.... i mean, whats another buck or 2?

You only need enough octane to eliminate detonation. If your engine doesn't ping or the knock sensor doesn't detect any knock and retards the timing at WOT under load with pump gas then increasing the octane level will only make your wallet lighter.

Driving around on the street doesn't put a huge load on the engine as long as you're driving like a normal person. Lower octane can easily be used. It's when you get into the throttle and put a load on the engine. That's when you'll notice if the octane is high enough.

Run a smaller secondary fuel cell. Regular fuel to drive around in main fuel cell/tank. Switch to secondary fuel cell full of racing fuel if it's required for racing. Bring enough fuel to keep it topped up after every run. You'll be carrying the regular fuel tank full of fuel down the track but it will still be there to get you home at the end of the day.

As for mileage, I run alcohol. I can make 2 full 1/4 mile passes. That's driving through the staging lanes and all the way back to the pits after a run. There's still some fuel in the cell but not enough for a third pass. I top up the tank after every run anyway so my race weight stays the same. Makes it easier to calculate an ET prediction if very little changes.

for any future search on this subject...i didnt use any more fuel than normal (this was a road race) if any thing maybe less. engine temp stayed normal (i expected it to run a bit cooler) the eng is old school na 406 sbc no cat no air pump no computers. all after market parts. my sponsor paid for most of the fuel....did i need 110 octane? no...91 works fine. i already knew that. would i use 110 again? yes ... i felt the eng liked it. if it was my money i might mix it with 91 octane ... but as stated above... why use it if its not needed.
