Fundraiser for Burn Victim

This from my Firebird club.......

One of our Firebird families needs our help. We received the tragic news that Josh Ingham, 25, of Spanaway, was seriously burned in an accident on May 27, 2002, while working on a truck he had planned to buy. He primed the carburetor with an open container of gasoline. The engine backfired through the carburetor and splashed burning gasoline over his upper body engulfing him in flames. Fortunately, he had the presence of mind to drop and roll, and with the owner of the truck smothering the flames with his own body, Josh’s life was spared. He was however, badly burned, and has second and third degree burns to 25% of his body. His chest, neck, right arm, and one side of his face will require ongoing treatment and skin grafts.

Josh’s job as a mechanic was the only source of income for him, his wife Nicole and children Randi, 5 and Scott, 2. He had recently started at Pro-Max, and has no medical insurance, nor financial reserves to meet the daily cost of living and the expensive treatments that lie ahead. Without insurance to cover hospital treatment, Josh is being treated as an outpatient. He has to travel by car, from his home, to St. Joseph’s Burn Center in Tacoma, for the very painful daily cleaning and dressing of his injuries.

An account has been opened to accept donations to help Josh and his family with these medical expenses. Please help in any amount you can donate. Contributions can be made at any Columbia Bank branch. For a branch near you, see http://www.columbiabank.com/body_locations.html or mail your check to the:

Josh Ingham Burn Recovery Fund

Columbia Bank – Summit Branch

10409 Canyon Road E.

Puyallup, WA 98373

If you have any questions or know of any sources of help, please call his mother, Lisa Balcom at *82 (253) 531-1797.

A Benefit Fund Raiser has been planned for Sunday, June 30, 2002, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The Fabulous Firwood Inn, located at 8014 Valley Road E. Fife, WA, 98424. (253) 926-0476. A $20 donation will be collected at the door, with any additional donation greatly appreciated. Live music will be donated by two bands, Boinkers and Just Dirt. There will be raffles for his and hers mountain bikes, in addition to door prizes and a silent auction. Kids are welcome at no charge. We hope to see you there.

To Get There:

Take Hwy 167 to Puyallup. At the end of Hwy 167 there is a bridge. Take a right onto N. Meridian at the light. At the next light, take a left onto Valley Road E. The Fabulous Firwood Inn is about 1-½ miles down the road.

From I-5 take Exit 137, head East on 54th Ave. E for 1/2 mile, bear left onto Valley Road East for 1.9 miles.

Joe,

Thanks for your response, I can't imagine whats its like to have this kind of injury but I know that help from a stranger would ease my pain a little. Josh and his family thank you so much!

Not a problem Don. Glad to help, and I hope he gets well soon. The whole thing hit me pretty hard because Ive had the same thing happen to me in Wyoming while I was trying to get my 82 Z28 running, fortunatly it just lit my coat on fire and scared the hell out of me. Im glad there was snow around and I had set the gas can down...

I too shall be contributing......

I believe that is one of lifes greatest feats, yet should be an everyday occurance.....the generosity and help of a stranger!
My prayers will be with him and his family, and my donation too.
Thanks for the post!

OK I got my unemployment check today and I had decided to "tithe" 10% to this cause as opposed to where it usually goes. It's not near what I would like to give but hopefully it will help. That could've easily been my husband. And when I think of all the things the family might need, besides maybe ready to eat meals the only thing I see they could really use is money. That, and support and prayer. I never thought I'd think soo ill of a carb.

Don,

Nice to see you on the boards again! That's terrible! My wife and I will keep your friend in our prayers! As far as the cash, were a little tight, but I will talk it over with the wife and we'll pray about giving what we can to the cause. Take care and don't be a stranger!
