Favorite roads?

Anyone out there have a road that their love to drive and wanted to share?

One of my personal favorite roads to just drive is Highway 2 when traffic is really light. I drove it twice a week all summer back in 2002. Take the t-tops off on a nice day, nice twisty roads and a 60 mph speed limit for a lot of it, 50 for the rest outside of the little towns. Not many cops, I've never gotten pulled over in all my trips. There is just something about going up into the mountains.

I also had some fun experiences on the road. Ran into some girl in a VW while stuck in traffic so I was doing the nascar tire warming moves as I was bored, then they started doing that. Couple miles later I get up next to them and the passengers both flash me, then the driver does the same a couple miles later. Also raced a sports bike up near the top in the twisties, plus had a fun little game with a FD RX-7 on the way back home once.

So, post up those roads and fun times!

I've never been about to do the East side of Highway 20... hopefully I will fix that this summer and do the whole Cascade Loop.

Re: Favorite roads?

The Cascade Loop is one of my favorites in WA. If you can, spend a night in Winthrop and another night in Leavenworth. Also, you can make a "turn" at Omak north on 97 towards Orville/Osoyoos US/Can Border. Then come back throught the Canadian side down Highway 3 from Osoyoos heading west through Keromeos, Princeton & Manning Park to Hope, BC

When you get to Hope, you just drive until Highway 1 to Abbotsford and come back through Sumas.

There are also a number of great roads in BC. One of the most scenic has to be from Radium Hotsprings to Banff on Hwy 93. You can get to this by crossing at Osoyoos and heading east on Hwy 3 again all through the Kootenays to Cranbrook. When you get to Cranbrook, you head north on Hwy 93/95 until you get to Radium Hotsprings. I highly recommend spending a night at Radium Hotsprings.

High Bridge Road in snohomish or the loop. In the car or on the bike they both have great winding turns that are a blast.

Re: Favorite roads?

I only know how to explain it comming from highway 9, so here goes.

From 9 go East on Broadway (left if you're going South on 9 right if going North)

Broadway will split (Broadway on the right, Connely Road to the left) and you want to stay to the right and continue on Broadway.

Keep going and the road will split again (Broadway to the right, Elliott Road to the left) and you want to go left onto Elliott road.

Stay on Elliott road and it will split again (Fales to the right, Elliott Road straight) and you want to keep going straight.

Elliott will go through 522 and become Welch road for a minute and THEN it will become High Bridge Road.

All in all the whole drive is fun if you like curves. A word of caution though, drive with caution the first couple of times, there are some spots that are notorious for loose gravel and some terrain changes. After you get used to that though it's a freaking riot.

Re: Favorite roads?

I agree with Grim about the Cascade Loop, I drove that last summer - had an absolute blast. Coming out of Twisp on that drive we actually watched a tumbleweed roll across the road in front of us, that was a new one. I also love driving down from Steven's Pass, snow not included.

The drive on Hwy 17 near Soap Lake between 90 & 2 is pretty cool as far as scenery goes, I remember that more than the road though.

I think I pretty much just like being on the road anywhere lol.

I've ridden it a couple times, it is a fun road but way short and traffic can get bad, plus the cops know to patrol that area.

Re: Favorite roads?

Two of my favorite roads around me are Germantown Rd. and Skyline. Germantown can be kind of short but it is definitely an adventure. Lots of very tight turns as well. It will take you from Beaverton to Portland. Skyline is a blast to drive too. I think it's longer but I've never driven the whole road yet. It's also better paved. Traffic is usually very light but there aren't any passing points or turn offs.

Re: Favorite roads?

theres a road going to my friend's house near cottage lake. Pretty much all those roads in that area are sweet, as long as you dont get lost! My absolute favorite corner on the face of the earth is a really sharp hairpin that banks right and gets really steep mid turn, then turns back left and levels out. I'm telling you, screaming up the straight just before at 50-60 then threshhold braking with a little heal and toe into the apex is what heaven will be like...

F'n A. !! i just found myself taking the hwy 30 bypass the other day when the 26 tunnel was shutdown, took skyline all the way to Cornelius pass to get back to Hillsboro, what a blast. if you have ever driven from Hillsboro to Newberg on the Hillsboro highway you will have been on another fun stretch. 45 MPH speed limit and 15MPH curves. beautiful trees all around, it's great cause you get out of a curve and punch it, only to slow down right away for the next, you never actually break the speed limit and you get to go Balls-out almost the whole way. it sucks when there are trucks though, but i just pull over and wait five minutes and then go again. awesome stretch of road.

Re: Favorite roads?

US 101 from Astoria to South Bend. Lots of twisting curves along the Naselle River, Willapa Bay and Willapa River. I found myself on this route on my way home from a crew gathering and couldn't resist the urge to go a bit past the speed limit. All two lane, so I had to watch for the occasional RV blocking the way. Also, once past South Bend, continuing up to Montesano is almost as fun.

South Bend as in Oregon's Bend? Just wondering as your info says you're in Bremerton, WA but you mentioned that you were on your way home.

Re: Favorite roads?

ok no one on this board will know where i'm talkin about.. but here goes..

first favorite: Mokulele highway coming from kihei.. when it turns into 2 lanes(yes folks, maui still has one lane highways, its a b!tch) after the second stop light.. once past that light, there is no place for a cop to hide.. and its a good 2 miles of straight and smooth road.. perfect for racing and high speed runs.. lol

second favorite but sometimes worst: the pali, as us locals call it.. or the road to lahaina.. when there used to be very little traffic, 2 years ago, that road used to be fun.. kinda like driving in the "mountains".. very twisty.. i just hop in the s-10 extreme and hold turns at 70+.. its crazy.. lol but now that theres SO MUCH DAMN PEOPLE ON THE ISLAND, sometimes theres traffic for literally 20 miles on that road.. so if you read this and want to move to maui, do me and everyone else here a favor and dont come.. sorry to sound like an azz but in the past 3 years, its gone from calm and no traffic, to crazy and cant go anywhere..

third favorite: this is where i always go and "test" out what i've done to the car since its pretty damn close to my house.. its pretty short at just about a mile long with a stop light in the middle.. well from makani road in pukalani, turn up haleakala highway and just haul azz till the stop light.. then at the stop light, light em up in the 2 lane and try to catch another car futher ahead.. lol

Re: Favorite roads?

5678TA, i don't know where you are talking about. do you ever make it over to the big island? lots of traffic as well through the towns, (because of tourists like me) but once you get out to the open highway (all two lanes, one in each direction) it is smooth sailing. Hawaii is a beautiful place to be. i was ther for about two weeks last Christmas.
