I remember hearing they had ONE firebird guy in the club. I think it was a 4th gen. Too bad, because it looks like they have pretty nice gatherings.
Maybe we can get a 3rd gen gathering to rival them... it's a shame that it'd have to full of senior citizens! (It's also a shame that the nicest third gens I see are all driven by those old geezers.)

I was a member for a couple of years. They've got the nicest 1st Gens around, including a street-legal 7-sec monster. The club also does some nice volunteer work for the needy. I got a bit tired of not enough 3rd Gen interaction and the lack of other F-bodies ... came to the conclusion I was having more fun spending time quaffing a couple beers and working on my car. Next time Toys for Tots comes around in Oct or Nov, run on down to Magic Island to check-out all the great Camaros and other rods and customs before they go on the parade run.

Hey I've got an idea. We should all get together for Toys for Tots this year Sound like a plan anyone?

What's wrong with senior citizens driving Third Gens?
I was a member of Hawaiian Island camaro's for about 3 years. When I transferred back to sea duty in Hawaii, I didn't have alot of time to hang with them and I gradually faded away. They are, however, a great bunch of guys.
I went on the first 4th of July Cruise on 1996. They hired a film crew to tape the run. When we stopped in Waikele for lunch, I was lucky enough to be interviewed. I think it had something to do with the sparkling clean, freshly polished and waxed Purple Haze Metallic paint and the supercharger.
Dwayne Wise used to be the President, but now I believe its Kevin Goto. Both knowledgeable and friendly. In fact I bumped into Dwayne when I was having my trans installed at John Pinero's shop back in January. Mel is a real friendly guy, as well. I really enjoyed talking Camaro's with him at the monthly meeting's. I learned alot. We used to meet at Kenny's Burger House, but I believe they have changed locations.
They have certainly grown and I have seen them featured in quite a few mags.

That was one of the things that irritated me about the Camaro club -- other F-Bodies were excluded. I always felt closer to FBs than 1st and 2nd Gen Camaros anyway...
well i guess what sets firebirds apart from camaro's in that club is that they had different motors up until late 70's early 80's (or whatever it was, someone help me out here). Also, since most of those hawaiian island camaro dudes are major old timers, they actually remember the difference, unlike us, who lived during the days of SBCs in both fbirds and camaros. In the end however, i still think that there is pretty much no real difference between the two, as they still both are F-bodies. But yes, Camaro people are stingy about camaros, and firebird people are stingy about firebirds. Thirdgen people in the end are probably the least firebird/camaro biased out of the whole bunch of fbody enthusiasts as a whole, as our cars both look alike physically and mechanically. Also, at heart we get trashed on by both 1stgen 2nd gen and 4th gen'ers because we have the "weakest" bunch of the lot. We always get screwed because we are sandwiched between the LT1/LS1 4th gen powerhouses and the 70-73' 2nd gen Fbodies, the 74-81 fbods in many ways live on only through the fact that the 70-73 fbods had mean *** engines. The L98 although a wondrous work of innovation, gets no real recognition from anyone at all, as it was quickly outdone by the more recent LT1 and LS1. Yet while people are quick to trash the L98 as a crap high end motor without taking not of the gobs of torque on the low end, they are slower to knock on the comparably crummy engines of the late 70s to early 80s SBCs because they are classic. IN the end we get screwed for being halfway between classic and modern, and that there is the heart and reason for both our fraternity, and seeming unpopularity with other fbody enthusiasts. If you lined up the top end camaro of each respective generation, lets say a 69 z28, 71 SS/z28 (whatever it was), 90 IROC or a 92 Z28 L98, and a 2002 SS, the general public would probably like the third gen least since it's neither modern nor classic. Essentially, when you drive on the road the most commonly seen trashy fbody is going to probably be a third gen, which to the general public, gives them a crummy perception of 3rd gen camaros. I had some queer *** kid at school rant on my teacher's 92 z28 for being a crummy p.o.s. when he was driving a 93 prelude, and then point to his friend's six pack 94 camaro and say that the 94 could smoke the Z anyday. In the end to me, Fbodies are fbodies, and Firebirds have as much a right to belong in a camaro club as a camaro would in a firebird club. Both are a piece of American heritage, yet none are as special to me as 3rd gen fbodies are, and that's that.
ps. i think i went way off topic there, hell i dont even know what i wrote, i just kinda wrote it while drinking a coke unconciously
Well, IMHO the '82-92 3rd Gens are overall the best looking and handling medium size sports cars GM produced. Although interesting from technical points of view, the others arouse no passion in me.

I could not have said that better myself. The majority of 3rd Gens I have seen here in Bremerton ARE all beat up. Sometimes I forget that to some, a Camaro/Firebird is just a means of transportation and not a hobby.
Although my Z is over 12 years old, (built in Feb. 92), its a nice feeling to get a compliment on its condition. Especially since those hotrod 4th gens are the talk of the moment.
To a great many people, a car is just a means of transportation. To some, it's an obsession, to others, it's something to take care of and fix up when you got time and money. (and mechanical skills, unless you like spending money at a speed shop...)
yes, damn 4th gens. everyone talks about them like they are the greatest gift from ***. I wouldn't mind owning one, but if i did i would drive it for a week and sell it then buy a nice 3rd gen and use the surplus money to make it better than the fourth.
Let 'em enjoy their moment in the spot light. I can remember the first time a I saw a '91 Z28. That high rise spoiler really set it off, and I told myself I was gonna get one.
Unfortunately, I could'nt afford one at the time (late 1990). It took five years, and I was lucky enough to find a real clean one with low miles (29000), a 350, and in the color I originally wanted (Purple Haze Metallic). I saw/bought it at Shelly Nissan (now New City Nissan) on Ala Moana Blvd in May of 1995.
As soon as the 5th gen hits the streets, they will no longer be the generation of the moment. Nothing against them at all. They are quick and well refined, but in my opinion (and that is only worth about 2 cents), they lack style.
....its an obsession to me. One thing that the 4th gens are good for are parts. I am watching 4 auctions on EBAY for 4th gen seats I will be putting in my '92. And I wont bother with Proxy Bidding, I am gonna Snipe one.
hehe snipe.... interesting terminology. I like it. But yes, fourth gens lack style, and are mostly noticed for their out of the box stock preformance attributes. Hell at least they give us something to throw at import freaks in car discussions. "(Import swine)My turbo prelude will kill any stock domestic, it runs high 13s. (Domestic guy) Oh yeah, well a stock LS1 Fbody will kill your *** anyday, it runs low to mid 13 (Import Swine) er... well I can drift better than it. (Domestic Guy) FWD drift blows..." Hehe... that's what I see them good for.
I've seen a few f-body hybrids before... looked odd. I think the only things that look good swapped are the wheels. IROC and GTA wheels look good on anything.
4th gens are great cars... I don't think any generation is lacking at anything. F-bodies have always been an excellent choice for every production year. Pontiacs, especially.
I also think 4th gens have all kinds of style. LS1 camaros remind me of 1st gens... so damn sexy! And LS1 WS6's... amazing. Only thing better would have been a shaker!
3rd gen 'maros sure do look the meanest of all, though!
