The master of the Hachi-Roku approves the Cama-roku!

Haha...well for the people that didn't know D1 driver Katsuhiro Ueo driver of the Sift/Yukes Hachi-Roku was at drift session today. Driving peoples cars and giving advice about some things to change and what not. Later in the day HE DROVE MY CAR! haha...the master of the Hachi-Roku drifts the Cama-roku haha.
First though he almost crashed my car...before even drifting it! haha. He was turning around because Mike from Grip Video ws trying to get his attention. Ueo didn't notice that the track had stopped and that the hachi in front of us had came to a stop. At the last second he turned back around and slammed on the brakes! Hahaha...all I heard was "SORRY!!!"
At first he couldn't really get it to drift to good. Mostly because he seemed to be trying to use the weight of the vehicle to break out the rear end and it didn't work to well. When he first drove down the 1/4 mile straight away he looked at me with a big smile and said "POWERFUL!!!" and gave me the thumbs up! haha. He later learned that for my car it's better to either mash the gas or kick the clutch. After a couple of laps he got that **** down! I was surprised by what my car could do. Especially by someone who is jumping into it for the first time. I tried my best to watch what he was doing with his foot work and what not. But a lot of the time I couldn't stop looking at some of the angle he was getting out of my car. On top of that how fast he was going...HE SCARED ME!!! haha. I learned a couple of things that he does differently that I will try at another time.
He's is amazing driver...I can't believe I got one of the top D1 drifters to drift my car. At the end he said that it's way faster then his hachi. Also that I need to change my rear tires to higher grip tires. (I had used old tires on there). He said if I had high grip tires on the rear he could've ripped up the course at high speed. When I asked what I should change or adjust. I don't fully remember exactly but this is what the translator said "he said nothing...that it's a good drift car and that I just need to put higher performance tires on the rear." OMFG! I actually tuned a good drift car!? Coming from a D1 driver as great as Ueo you don't know how good that felt. Also how shocked I was by hearing this. (though this also sucks cause that means I have a long ways to go with my skill) Man...I'm just so excited and happy...man...THANK YOU KATSUHIRO UEO!!!

Sweetness. And I got it all on vid too. I'm sure Anthony got some vid as well. Soon as I get some free time I'll post it up. IMO it was a momumental first for domestic drifting, to have a Japn D1 driver drifting a domestic. Sweet!!

Yeah it was awesome! Like Chris said, Ueo had to adjust to the car for a few laps........then after nearly overheating it (lol!) he was ripping up the track!!! I got some video shots of the car going through the Chicayne & then the off camber turn. Man I wish I hung out by the sweeper turn cause Chris said the car was pretty much sideways through the whole thing & with perfect line.

I was pretty impressed by Ueo's skill behind the wheel & how fast he adjusted to the Camaro. It just goes to show you the skill level of some of the driver's from Japan. Oh yeah, Ueo also said that the Camaro had way more power than alot of the cars they use for grip in Japan. He also said that the Camaro would be a competitive car for D1 with better tires on the rear. Suspension wise.....he said not to touch it. It's perfect!

Thanks again Chris for letting me ride along. I gotta post that close call right after the chicayne. Talk about a dust cloud!!! But hey, you didn't hit anything so it's all good. I also gotta post the clip I have when you are just mashing the throttle through the entire sweeper & creeping up fast on the car ahead. Good stuff!

And remember. Like Shawn said....This was a historic & monumental event for domestic drifting having a top D1 Japan driver drift a domestic!!!! Keep it up & the Camaro drifting movement might spread. hehe. Laterz.

Anthony

Here's some pics I took of Chris with Tracys new Digital Camera. The full resolution pics are crazy big (like 3MB each). Here's some I sized down. I'll be posting more (and high res version) on the website within the next few days. I reviewed my footage but didnt get around to encoding it yet. Chris, I regret I didnt get any footage of Ueo getting into your car or getting out, or even talking to you. I ran away to the stands and stood in my special spot where I can actually record the entire track except for a portion of the 1/4 mile turn. So I pretty much got all your runs. Pretty sweet! I'll encode, edit, and post those as soon as I get time. Shoots:

sweet vid seems like you where holding on so tight for dear life, that you left imprints on the dash pad Anthony! I didn't realize just how much time you actually spend off the gas rather than on it. Is it just the camera, or duz the exhaust sound... different? It sounds like a 4-stroke 250cc moto/super cross bike.

Considering this thread is 4 YEARS old......I wonder if the videos even still exist anywhere.

I'd suggest PMing the posters & asking them.

Haha man I just got an email that had the thread title in the message and was confused. Damn I haven't heard about my old car in such a long time haha.

Here's an old video of me drifting the 1/8th mile turn at HRP (R.I.P. haha).
