Hey, Ed, what were the symptoms of the fuel pump going kaput? I think my TTA's pump is going out, but I could be wrong (I hope it's just the MAF). the car stumbled and almoste died when I tried nailing it, felt like it wa running out of gas (it isn't), and it kept doing it so much that I parked the car and drove teh GTA to work. I'll probably be driving the GTA for a time until I figure out and fix the TTA. Drives nice and the leather seats are comfortable...
Lower fuel pressure, higher current draw, more noise, or intermittently not working.
Replace your filter if it's not new and check your pressures. I don't know what to look for as far as amp readings, but if you can find specs for the normal range you can measure that too. You can also diagnose it on a scope if you have one lying around.
Or... swap it with the GTA's pump and see if that fixes it or not. (Yeah right....)
Unpluggin the MAF killed the car. I got some miftly troubleshooting guide from a guy at turbobuick.com, I'm suppose to see 40-something PSI at the schrader valve when I first turn the car to run - the pump kicks in for a second or two, to build up pressure. As soon as I get a fuel pressure gauge, I can verify if I have the appropriate pressure readings, and that it doenst' leak down once the pump turns off. Neat stuff, this Internet thing...
Okay, update! Turns out my air box lid was loose. I was getting water from all the rain we've been having into the air box, hence, it got injested, where it clogged the MAF and filter and ended up into the intercooler. (Hooray for the intercooler, lowest part of the air intake system!) So, I unplugged the MAF, ditched the filter and left it with just the MAF pipe on, and it ran a LOT better. I've yet to drain the intercooler, though.
So, you'll be prepping for the track this weekend then? Right on Ian!
