Kiwi Firebirds and Trans Ams

Hi from Christchurch, where the gas is expensive and the earthquakes are no longer caused by v8s rumbling by...

I have a 1984 Trans AM, I have made contact with a few local FB/TA owners but there must be more out there..

I am after a set of rear louvers for my TA, If any one knows where to get a set i would be most grateful, too expensive to import from USA.. no wonder we buy from china, i can land a box full of gps units for $200 and delivered in 3 days via DHL.. it costs $800 to bring in louvers and takes over 30 days.. sad really..

Alternatively maybe we could form a buying collective and find someone who is importing car parts from the us and piggy back with them.. what ever it takes to get some of those juicy parts from classic industries..

Anyway here is my baby, 1984 305 HO , left hook the way god intended, headers and dual pipes..

Re: Kiwi Firebirds and Trans Ams

Mate there was a set of louvres on trade me recently for the same generation camaro, I think its the same glass on both cars.I have some alloy louvres on my 85 Z28 and they are great as well as gives the car a differently distinctive look. I'm in Nelson and yes I drool over what is available for our cars in the USA but the shipping costs kill my desire pretty quick! In saying that, there are some very reasonable parts shippers in the US you just have to trawl around for them and I've had some great deals endiing up hundreds of dollars saved inc shipping costs. Big items are the killer, I'm trying to bring in a specific Tpi manifold which costs 479 +180 (usd) shipping and then convert to nzd then pay the gst and import duties, I guess about a grand. Sucks! So still looking. Ideally you would have a mate in the US buying your parts and shipping them out seafreight in bulk? Not sure what is the least expensive way to go here, oh well I'll keep trawling!
Cheers Simon

Re: Kiwi Firebirds and Trans Ams

I have a set of louvers that I had for my 84 Z28. I had them powder-coated black but the car was written off before I mounted them. I now have a 91 TA convertible and dont need them. They are in very good condition but somehow I have lost the brackets that mount them to the window. Im sure that they would be very easy to make brackets to mount. I dont know what the shipping would cost but you can have them for $150AUS. I can email pics if you like? Ron
