Has anyone install a rebuilt tranny from autozone or heard of Accurate transmissions? I need a new tranny and i called up autozone for the heck of it checking on other parts, and I asked about there tranny's, they can sell a rebuilt Accurate brand transmission for a lot less than anyone else including Checker/Kragen, which also sell those transmissions. They quoted a price of $450, which I believe is pretty damn cheap. Any opionions? Checker/Kragen selling same Accurate transmission for $1,004.00. Went to Accurate website, looks like they mass produce them, but will be any worse then a rebuilt one from a local shop, considering I don'r really have the cash to spend much, and you don't know what parts and the quality parts they use in the local shops anyways, without spending $1,500 on one.

I wonder if it's rated for no more than 140 horsepower or something? Wouldnt be sup[rised if it took a week to shift either..

Lots of ins and outs to auto tranny rebuilding. Different thicknesses of the plates to get in tolerance for instance. I'd guess these high volume shops have many shortcuts to getting this right as well as the many other things it takes to do the job right, fast, and cheap. Probably a good transmission, but I sure suspect that price was off a bit.

as an employee of kragen, and familiar with this company, along with a few others we deal with. I am assuming who you spoke with didnt know what they were doing and quoted you a price for an extended warranty or some ****, did you call or walk in?

I did a walk in also to verify the price at a different location autozone and they quoted me the same price as before. I am thinking its priced incorrectly or something, so I should jump on it quickly. Autozone only quoted a 1 yr warrenty compare to 18 months with kragen. So TraviZ, whats your opinion on this Accurate brand transmission, its it worth it, whats your experience with them, I would really appreciate your opinion.

well We have three different tranny carriers, accurate, evergreen and some other brand. we always try to sell the accurate brand because they are the best that we carry, I do not know too much about how they last though because the warranty goes directly through the manufacturer and not through us, so if it ever breaks or anything, we would never know. but as of yet ive never heard of anything bad.

sure, but at the first sign its acting up, break it hard so u get it replaced before the warranty is up.

Maybe need to back up just a bit. What type tranny is this? An overdrive automatic would surely be a steal at that price. An early T5 five speed would be an ok deal too. A 200 series three speed might even be a good deal. But then there were some Chevette trannys used in the early 80s. Beware.

any rebuilt transmission for that price is cheap, i hear of experienced rebuilders taking apart 700-r4-4l60 in 15mins while talking,

autos are not the most difficult to rebuild, id say go for it it has a year waranty if its going to break down it will be within 10,000 usally youll notice something,

well hopefully this does work out, cause then I can afford to buy a decent converter for it and a shift kit. and I hope this will help anyone else out looking for a inexpensive daily driver tranny, if not then I will learn a lessen on try to find cheap alternatives.

I checked about puttin in a shift kit, they said if would void the warranty, so I may just put in a corvette servo and call it good. Also would anyone recommend using synthetic oil ?

absolutly not, synthetic for 700-r4's are bad, or so i hear from alot of people. regular aft 3 will work
