Re: kyb strut mount?

just seems like a decent price to pay for a set. I really dont need adjustability. But I am going to buy a new front ps fender first

Re: kyb strut mount?

I currently have a set, they are great for factory replacements. no complaints. stiffened things up front a bit since my stockers had 200k+ and were torn.

Re: kyb strut mount?

I had broken stock pieces on my car and the KYB replacements are great. The car is much smoother and stiffer.

Re: kyb strut mount?

Just an FYI for others who may peruse this post: After market companies, like Gabriel and Moog, claim that their strut bearing plates will fit 82-92 cars. However, the after market will only fit 82-86 if the 87-92 three-stud retainer is used (the difference, which is considerable, can be seen in the link below). Bought mine at a bone yard. Spohn also sells them now (and no, I didn't get a kickback for my discovery!).

Here's the whole post about the subject:

Spohn's version:

Re: kyb strut mount?

I had forgotten about that. I think I had that problem and went to the junkyard and pulled a whole bunch of retainers and found a set that worked.

Wow....I had no idea. Never saw that post, but excellent info.

Just to clarify it for me ..(I'm kinda slow ) - so long as I purchase any aftermarket bearing plates that come with retainers , everything will be OK right?

You'd think that if they're sold as a package, all should be fine.

I thought so but I wanted to be sure...I plan on getting the Founder's bearings and since I've never changed a set, I don't know what the ins-and-outs are. - Thanks!

this is the route i went myself; price wasn't too much more than a set of the stock style bushings, more adjustable, and look pretty good too!

OK, sorry but I'm a little confused. I too am looking at the Founders plates. I have an 86. If I am not mistaken, as long as it is a kit with the retainers included like the founders kit, it will work for all 3rd gens?

Thanks, that made my mind up on going with the slightly more expensive plates. After all, by the time I get the later model retainers, it will nealy cost the same.

Re: kyb strut mount?

Yup thats the direction i went as well. It was 110 shipped for KYB strut mounts or moog strut mounts or 169 for founders with all the adjust-ability. Not to mention i lowered my car one inch and founders mounts as well as the other aftermarket performance mounts take that into play and raise there mount up 1 inch or so so that the shock is still within its working range.

Re: kyb strut mount?

I bought KYB strut mounts 2-3 years ago off tire rack, they were made in taiwan. Worked fine but just saying I think Ac delco is about the same price and probably made in usa. correct me if im wrong.
