Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
Man, I just tried this first time ever about two weeks ago... right before your post!
Not that I'm an expert by any means but engine oil is tested using 6 or so different tests for stuff like sheer of the oil itself, time versus parts damage, heat resistance and more. It would be interesting to read lab test results. One thing I noticed, my oil pressure is higher using this stuff. Hope I'm okay for mostly short trips/gas saving way I drive but your right, the video is pretty concerning.

Ok... some real scientific testing? Based on those results if we ran an 80/20 mix in our engine the oil would foam out the filler cap? How do we know if there is actually Lucas product in that thing? Look, a counter top prop is not reason enough to dismiss the product.... it's not reason enough to buy it either. I think all oil additives are snake oil.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
why is it that i NEVER see any trace of foam on my dipstick whenever i check the oil in my truck? i use lucas oil stabalizer every single oil change in my daily drivers. i've never once seen any foam in under the valve covers or on the dipstick. this "test" implies that i would see it not only with the engine running, but up to an hour+ after i shut it off. never, not once have i seen it. ontop of that, i have less cold start "noises" out of both the 5.3 in my truck, and the 2.0 in the wife's neon (which have notorious issues with cold start noises from the timing belt tensioner), and the oil seems to stay cleaner longer. i check my oil every time i fill up. neither engine use or leak a drop either.
you guys can not claim that lucas is bad, just cause you hooked a drill to a plastic display

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
in your engine no it will not foam up there is no part that can mix the air in like the teeth on the gear. besides it is dilluted with regular oil. just thickens it up running 20w50 does the same as running lucas with 5w30. by using it on a lower mileage engine it actually forces the bearings to wear out enough to allow it to flow properly. then you really cannot go back to regular weight oil due to the slack that is now in the bearings. but years or being in the oil change business showed me that you do not want to put it in your manual transmission or differential as you can tell if it has it because it looks like chocolate milk same color as a blown head gasket due to the air in it.

Anyone that buys snake oil or same such products ( the tornado for example) deserves them, fools will always buy this crap and always will.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
The gear set counter top test is a great example to show how it helps the oil not break down as quickly, and increases the viscosity.
However, using the gear set in high rpm's is not a good test because that DOES NOT simulate how an engine operates. There's no gear mesh in an engine like the simulator, hell there's not even any heat... In an engine the oil pump picks it up at the bottom, it runs through the valleys into the crank journals/piston mains, and up to the heads....
Some key points:
- Gear mesh pickup is nonexistent in an engine.
- The amount of liquid in that tester is FARRR less than what would be in an engine. That means, the tester would break down MUCH faster than a test with 5 qts or oil + stabilizer.
- How OLD do you think that simulator is exactly? Unless that oil was changed 5 months ago, it's not accurate.
I've used lucas for years, never had a problem, and often times helped reduce oil burning, and I even added it in a car AFTER I blew a rear main seal, kept my car going, leaking oil like crazy for 7months, but my engine lasted because of it.
The product is good, otherwise it would not have lasted for so long with such a great reputation.
Anyone that honestly takes this test to heart to prove the product's effectiveness is very poorly educated, or just wants to jump on the bandwagon of thinking they found something new, which they did not. If anything, this proves the video makers are idiots, which a majority of people are that work at part stores...(usually the kids).
My question is.... how many times have you received the WRONG part at a part store? And are you seriously going to believe "evidence" from those same individuals? It's ludicrous.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
i see it doing it's Job. climbing all the way to the top gear. even under Hi RPM.
so you got some air mixed with it.. your oil pump works in a diff way then dragn/dipping into a oil bath.
the eng oil pump works by pulling then pushing into a tube. and not mixing with AIR. when doing so..
if it did mix with air. your oil pump is starving for Oil. and that is a NO NO anyway..= Fail!!
you guys need to think this one over
OIL PUMP PICK UP..is under oil.
by 2 to 3" in a stock eng when running. picking up NO AIR!
YOU SEE WHEN IT DOSE PICK UP AIR.
EXMPL
YOU will have lifter tick tick tick. from low oil presh.(IN MOST STOCK ENGS)
has air will compress.. and oil will not..no liquid will (just a side note)
this is how a oil pump works..by pushing into a tube
NOT..RINNING IN A BATH..Hope this helps ya..
kids... BUY THEM BOOKS AND BUY THEM BOOKS!
what do they do?..eat the teacher!

Just curious has anyone used Lucas tranny sealer? I have a tranny leak on the front seal. Someone said the stuff is great. I have not used it yet, because waiting for the tranny fluid to get lower.

You said it yourself...right in the video. "But oil in engines is circulated by and oil pump and gravity, not spinning gears..."
The same logic applies to why the lucas side acts as it acts.
Btw...I work at a parts store. I cant stand it. Its a second job to make some extra cash. The reason I cant stand it..my co-workers. Caught a kid the other day hooking a starter to the tester. He had the postive on the solenoid positive, and was hooking the negative to the OTHER BIG POST on the starter... Awesome.
When I worked for the same store years and years ago, we broke one of those testers open. I dont even know if you can call whats in there oil in the first place... But I do know Lucas has been around quite a while. And lots of guys swear by it. I sell it by the truck loads.

^^i too work at a parts store part time while i finish my degree. i typically steer folks away from products i don't believe in.
i sell lucas products, seafoam, and white shepard/blue devil sealers. i've seen all of them do everything they claim, and i believe in them as long as the directions are followed properly.
snake oil schmake oil, there is some no kidding chemical engineering going on in some of the products today, and the average consumer is no longer just "throwing it in the engine because nascar uses it" (ie zmax and other dumb additives that feed off of a consumers LACK of knowledge)

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
Unfortunately I'm forced to buy 20w50 Synthetic Royal Purple oil for my Camaro...Whoever the prior owners were beat the engine to hell and back, and anything LESS than what I use makes the engine knock/tick on startup, ( Yes, I've tested other oil visc.) Even in really cold conditions the 20w50 isn't enough at times, I've done 3 Oil changes since having the car, with the 20w50 Synthetic, and Once WITH the lucas oil additive, With the additive in the car, I never once had the engine knock, even on a cold day, and it runs smoother when starting up from a stop light. The 20w50syn works fine, but I'd much rather have Lucas added to avoid those very rare, but occasional knocks/ticks in the AM. It costs a butt load to do an oil change but it's worth it to have my car drivable. (Approximately $70-80)

I have ran this stuff for years and never had any problems. Started buying the stuff when I picked up a s10 with a 2.2 for a DD. Previous owner blew head gasket and ran it for a while with milky oil. I use Lucas with the cheapest oil I can find when it comes time for an oil change, and have put over 65,000 miles with no problems, ticks, or leaks.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
Ive used it on my gen 1 sbc motors that were built and had good mileage on them..It did work well..quieted valve train noise..burned less oil etc.my oil changes started to come out rather clean aswell. As for my hile mileage ls1...did not take to the lucas stuff well..at all.I added maybe qtr of the bottle to my motor and let it sit for 15mins.Apon restarting the car..it began to burn oil more..raised my oil pressure and car became sluggish downlow.Good thing Im swapping motors soon anyway but i soon drained the oil and replaced it again with fresh amsoil and it got better..still not 100%.
Years ago I would recommend this product but today with the highly developed oils being made..its easier to just use a thicker heavier oil without changing the characteristics of the oil already in your motor with additives.Do regular oil changes with quality oil will do you better than relying on over the counter remedy in a bottle, just my opinion.

I am using synthetic oil and the lucas stuff is exactly like pouring out honey.Thicker than oil for sure.Ive seen alot of guys stay far away from it with built motors and only used it on something high mileage that is already showings signs for a rebuild.I doesnt make the engine work harder..cant say the same for your oil pump with people reporting almost 20psi higher oil pressure at idle.

Looks like the original poster has a beef with Lucas or too much time on his hands, or both. I have used Lucas products for years and never had the first issue as it appears most everybody else has had the same results. I say if you don't like them, don't use them, but if you are going to do a test, please, don't post it on youtube for everyone to see how completely unscientific and laughable it is.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
I've used Lucas in my Nova's .040 over 350 engine since I built it 8 years ago. Have made over 150 1/4 mile passes at the track and about 10,000 miles on the street flogging it like a dog shifting at 7000+ rpm made 22 passes down track in 1 night. I don't no if the stabilizer is good or bad but the oil stays very clean, lasts longer, oil pressure is a little higher and my track times have consistently gotten better with a best of 12.17 on a bfg 225/45/17 drag radial.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
I too call BS on the OP's claim. Started 1 quart lucas with 3 quarts High Mileage oil when I bought the car with 180,xxx miles. Every oil change gets it. Along with Lucas injector cleaner every couple tanks of fuel. Now at 240,xxx miles and the car runs like brand new. 2.8 V6, but I don't think that makes a difference when talking Lucas products.
I think that alone blows the OP's claim out of the water. Besides the fact that the little gear thing at all the auto parts store is made to show that lucas added to regular oil, will help it to get EVERYWHERE in the motor and coat parts better than just oil alone.
Lucas is highly recommended by me and many others.
IMO Lucas anything is worth the money. Used some of the Lucas Stop Slip in my trans when I was having problems with it; Haven't had a problem with the trans since. All depends on how bad the leak/seal is.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
I have a 2009 Chrysler Aspen with 167,000 miles on it now. When we bought this it was previously a rental vehicle. This vehicle uses 5W20, so it is already thin.
It always had a bad tick even in the summer, but really bad in the winter. And it started hard in the winter as anyone would expect a vehicle to.
Over the last year I started using Lucas in my oil and it quieted down the tick very much when it started cold and then went away within seconds. I did not lose any power whatsoever and there has never been any foam or weird oil problems. And my oil is even dark when I change it knowing that the detergents in the oil are doing their job. Plus the engine turns right over on a cold start.
Sure it is a little pricey, but it sure makes a positive difference in my engine.

i was upsold on an oil change and my car blew up. I'm told it's not for BMW. Called the oil change place and compared it to honey as well. They tried to bs me until I brought up my mechanic and talked about oil pressure and viscosity. They really do treat women like idiots. It's sad.

Someone from Bobistheoilguy.com sent some in for analysis.
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ub...pics/1976391/1
Not impressive at all, just thick low grade oil with no anti wear, detergent or anti foam additives.
You are actually diluting the additive package that is already in any decent oil and making it worse.
If you have a worn out engine and need a thick oil, just buy some 20w50 and leave it alone!

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
I did an oil change once on my 76 Pontiac gp. 5 quarts of 10w30 and one quart of lucas. Took an afternoon drive to the jersey shore. you should have heard the lifters clattering all the way there and back. got home, dropped a quart of oil out of the pan and put another quart of 10w30 in the engine. never heard another lifter clatter after that. never used that stuff again.

Re: Lucas Oil Stabilizer Fail!!! DO NOT BUY!!!
Lol. Heres my story. I blew both headgaskets and wiped all the bearings in the motor. As I nursed it into autozone I bought this lucas oil stabilizer. Thought what the hell, Im waiting on a tow couldnt hurt to try. Poured it in, turned the key,,,,wow started right up. Purred like a cat and gained 50hp easily. Canceled the tow, drove it home. That was 5 years ago. Still driving it today. Looked at the engine the other day. Was surprised it now has aluminum heads and a dart block. This not only fixed my motor but transformed it into somthing better. I was blown away!Highly recommended.

I dont know how the transformation works or the time it takes to complete but I do know its prominent and random. I'll give you some examples. Another friend did this as well. He parked the car for 2 weeks. When he decided to take it out of the garage a quick pop of the hood almost knocked him off his feet. Not only was the high mileage L98 not there, in its place was a 427 LS awap. He was stunned. Another acquaintance had a simaler experience. In his situation he let the car sit 3 weeks and low and behold a 502 big block was there when the hood was opened. It's totally random but mind blowing at the same time. A word of caution. You have to buy the Lucas brand, not the store brand copy for this to work in your favor. A example of this is one of my good friends. Feel bad for him after this experience. He thought he would save a few dollars over the Lucas and on top of that have his totally transformed engine for a fraction of the cost we fools who bought the Lucas paid more for.So he pours the store brand in and proceeds to park it in the garage for a month. He was counting the days to what he would end up with. He couldn't contain his excitement the last day. He called us all up and said he was popping the hood the next day and we should all be there for the big reveal. Next day comes and we all gather round to ponder what will become of the store brand Lucas copy oil treatment. He pops the hood and good thing we were all around to catch him when he fainted. In place of his L98 was a 4 cylinder Iron Duke. Rusted block, tin all pitted and rusted. Leaking valve cover. What a shock. He has not been the same since. I have not talked to him since he went upstate when he lost his mind. So word to the wise. Use the name brand Lucas and not the store brand copy. Its guaranteed to knock your socks off.

Someone from Bobistheoilguy.com sent some in for analysis.

Not impressive at all, just thick low grade oil with no anti wear, detergent or anti foam additives.
You are actually diluting the additive package that is already in any decent oil and making it worse.
If you have a worn out engine and need a thick oil, just buy some 20w50 and leave it alone!

Ok, that wasn't what I expected..... though, certainly good for a laugh.
Some folks swear by this stuff, other folks swear at it..... it's pretty much the same argument over which is better, dino oil, or synthetic? I suppose it depends on why you are using it, and what your expectations are. Would I dump thick oil into an engine that wants 0w20? Notta chance..... but, if I wanted to milk a bit more life out of a worn out v-8, I may consider it......

They put that little thing in the store where the oil climbs the gears, but you don't actually want your oil to do that. Thin film lubrication is how engine oil works. Making it a thick film doesn't help. The main thing you'll achieve by using that stuff is creating fluid shear, which breaks down the polymer chains in the oil that allow it to thicken when warm. So your 15W40 thins out to just 15W or less even faster. The engine is designed to distribute oil that doesn't stick together like that so other problems like lack of lubrication to some areas, minor foaming, cavitation, and small unbalances on rotating parts are in theory a possible problem if you take it way too far. The only problems you are likely to really see are a small loss in power and faster oil breakdown.
If you need to thicken your oil slightly just mix weights of a quality oil. Pour in half 15W40 and half 20W50, now you've got 17.5W45.
