anybody spray por 15?

has anybody had any success spraying por 15 through an hvlp gun? if so what tip size did you use, and did you have to thin the paint? I want to spray my engine bay with this stuff. I ordered a gallon of the semi gloss black to do my floorboards (top and bottom). I'm probably going to brush those, unless spraying goes well if its even possible.

even por 15 doesnt reccomend spraying it. they say you do need to thin it.
por15.com
i would count on not being able to use the gun for anything else after that.

Re: anybody spray por 15?

i didn't notice that on their website before. i just read you need to thin it with their thinner made specifically for por 15 and i don't wanna spend more money on that, so... i guess i'll be brushing it on. i wonder how it's going to turn out
anybody have suggestions on getting a smooth finish while brushing. i know sanding is going to be difficult in a few areas under the hood.

Re: anybody spray por 15?

dont worry about sanding too smoothly, it does cover pretty well. use as litlle paint as possible and clean up drips and runs w/ a seperate unloaded brush for smoothest results. have lots of disposable brushes available in case you contaminate one or it becomes too loaded. i use the foam, as this stuff tends to eat most cheap bristle brushes and sheds in your paint.

if you shoot por 15 wihtout a full body suit and a fresh air supply system in your mask, you will die sooner then you should have. brush it on.

Re: anybody spray por 15?

I sprayed a truck frame with it and it turned out perty good. I just used a cheap sears paint gun and a good mask, though I didn't have a fresh air supply. So far its been 3yrs and the only problem with it is its chipping in a few places.
