Diecast that's available...
I couldn't find another area to post this, but I'm curious about the diecast that is available for our cars...
I've seen most everything that's available, but I can't seem to find ANY 1991-1992 Z28s (hell, even finding an 85-90 Z28 is near impossble; most are incorrect).
Does anyone know if there is a TRUE 1991-1992 Z28 offered in any scale?

i have over 40 third gen camaros ranging from 1/64 to 1/8 scales. the closest ive found for 91-92 are on ebay. they are 1/24 scale promo cars from dealship promotions. prices range from about 5 bucks to 20 bucks. they are plastic not diecast.

Re: Diecast that's available...
....still looking for that ever elusive 91-92 diecast.... Its gotta be out there. I spoke with "Greenlight" about making one since their stuff is TOP NOTCH and they said that some other diecast mfgr holds the molds for the 91-92 cars (incl. Z28), but I explained to Greenlight that no one currently produces (AFAIK), a true 91-92 Z28 in diecast. To me, with modern diecasts having rubber wheels and extreme detail, a 91-92 would be AWESOME to have... you know you're never to old to play with diecast.
I did see these which I've never seen before, but I don't believe that the low level of detail shown in the pics warrants the high asking price:

Re: Diecast that's available...
I had to ask my wife where she stored the boxes, but I found my stash of thirdgen stuff... Its not much, but I always enjoy rifling through it when I discover it every so often.
I have a couple promo cars (including some Beretta stuff, which was a big part of my younger years), two 89 Johnny Lightning IROC cars, a 1:24 scale IROC car still in box (and original recpt from Valley Chevrolet in Pomona, CA from 1989) and some other odds and ends.
Here's a pic of the IROC race car that I've had since about 2002:
I've not seen a lot of them. The box shows age (Its at least 21 years old from the receipt, but its never been out of the box.
I just like collecting this stuff - I find it WAY more interesting than some of the more popular cars because its always harder to find and typically, more rare.

The closest I've seen to a 1991-2 anything is the Johnny Lightning 1992 RS, and it doesn't even have the correct aero ground effects. I myself am an avid 3rd gen toy/stuff collector. If interested can see some of my collection here: http://s287.photobucket.com/albums/l...Camaro%20Toys/

that expensive camaro is made by western, and made in england from what i had read about them. ertl made an identical model here. it would be great if green light made 91-92 series.

Well, I don't have any '91-'92's, but here's my modest diecast collection. It consists of probably 90% Camaro's (all gens) + some 55-57 chevy's and a little misc. stuff.
And the 3rd Gens....

Cool collections - I'm planning on doing something similar to what you did Coolwheels - making a section (probably in my office area or man cave) and put some shelves on the wall.
BTW: You probably already have it, but I've got a Johnny Lightning black 89 IROC - same series as the ones you've got....

Re: Diecast that's available...
I was repacking my box of thirdgen stuff tonight and compared the Johnny Lightning IROC I've got vs. the Greenlight Formula 350 I've got. The Greenlight car was much more precisely detailed - The body lines were sharper, more crisp, the taillights were much more detailed and overall, it looks like you are looking at a miniature car, not a diecast replica.
If Greenlight ever makes a Camaro, it'll be FANTASTIC looking. (maybe they already do, I dunno)

Re: Diecast that's available...
I was working with ERTL and GMP Peachstate back in 2008 regarding having a 3rd gen Camaro produced. GMP is interested, but with the economy the way it is, they are waiting. I provided them a list of all of the cars they could produce from one mold with just simple changes. GMP puts out probably the highest quality diecast. No offense to this Western, but that quality is horrible for the asking price. I'm also not very impressed with Greenlight. They did a nice job on the Trans Am they made, but with decals for taillights? C'mon!!! I will follow up with GMP next week and see if things are looking more promising.

Re: Diecast that's available...
I've got a pretty extensive diescast collection (I cant even see the white on the walls, lol) and I have quite a few third gen cars as well. About 25 unopened hotwheels third gens, about 11 opened ones, 6 larger ones, a few johnny lightnings, and a few various other brands unopened. I've also got some wierd 4x4 82-84 t/a that blows smoke if you pour vegetable oil in it which I think is neat, lol. If anyone is interested I can take some pics and see if I have anything that you guys don't have.

Re: Diecast that's available...
I want to see some pictures of that! I have been looking for some third gens for a while now but most of the cars I find (even on ebay) are normally not detailed and they are modded and look wierd. Then all the ones that actually look like the car can get pretty expensive.

Most of the ones I find aren't stock looking, but some are but have a few minor flaws. Like the Trans Am's don't have the fender vents, etc.. I'll get pics up shortly.

Re: Diecast that's available...
I'm definitely more a fan of the other makers, not so much HotWheels - The hotwheels cars always looked way more 'cartooney' to me. I just found/bid on an '85 IROC from Jada Toys - Looks pretty good; a smaller version of the large one you've got.
STILL - I've been doing some searching and have found NOTHING that is 91-92 Camaro (or Firebird for that matter) specific. Very strange. Aside from the ERTL promo cars and some Revell models, there are no CORRECT 91-92 diecast that I can find....

I used to be a big diecast collector, Now I am back to just 3rd gens and 2nd-4th Gen Firebirds.
Sorry, can't help on teh 91-92 Specific Z28's, But just wanted to let people know the Greenlight Firebird's are Awesome! Well detailed, well put together, Love em!
Hot Wheels is doing a Knight Rider T/A for 2011, Somethin' to keep an eye out for. Hot wheels likes to tweak their models to make other cars, so a early 3rd Gen Bird could be a possibility in the future!

some collectors keep them packaged because it has more retail or resale value. i can understand that but obviously i dont keep mine packaged. i enjoy my collection, and continue to build it.
in fact, a local collector here just brought over a box full of third gen camaro models and promos he came across. im going to take them off him when i get a few extra bucks..

I have a closet full of NHRA funny cars I purchased from the Mac Tools dealer that I was trying to get rid of cheap, but I have to find that one in a million person who is interested.

Re: Diecast that's available...
I ust recently found some Sun Star 1:18 Camaro die cast models existed.
Also managed to obtain one through E-bay.
Seeing as they are, apparently, no longer manufactured, I´m a bit torn on whether I will modify this one to create en exact replica of how I want my car to be, or if I leave it for now, untill I manage to lay hands on a 2nd copy.
The parcel did not arrive, but from what I´ve seen so far the model appears to be well made.
Does anyone have a shot of the ERTL 1:18 Camaro?

Re: Diecast that's available...
Not quite sure. I have seen a ERTL one mentioned a few times.
Haven't found anything other then a few vague references to it's existence so I'm a bit doubtful about that.
I contacted greenlight, but they do not seem to have the desire or tools to make a 3rd gen Camaro anytime soon was their reply.
Bit of a shame because I really like their 1:18 GTA

I just like collecting this stuff - I find it WAY more interesting than some of the more popular cars because its always harder to find and typically, more rare.
