must slam driver door or won't shut all the way

this is the second 3rd gen i have owned and both have the same problem. Last car it was both doors, this time its only the driver door. If i dont slam the door hard it won't shut all the way. I am thinking something is worn down and needs to be replaced or adjusted? I dont like the slam it, i keep thinking i will end up knocking the window or power off alignment or something. Anyone know how to fix this with adjustment or new parts? thanks.

This is a very common problem with these cars and the heavy doors. A company named "Top down solutions" offers a few different ways to fix the problem. One being a "door hinge repair kit " and the other a "EZ door alignment tool" Here's a link to there site. I beleave you ask for Lon.

You may also want to get a door spring tool to help with the install.
I have used both the door hinge repair kit with the spring tool and it worked just fine, though its still a little hard to close because of the new weather striping.

Re: must slam driver door or won't shut all the way

You should not have to put the window down to close the door. That vent in the jamb is to help release some pressure.

Open the door a little so it is still lined up with the car and not wide open like a bird ready to fly.
Lift up and down on the door. All doors will flex some when you arm strong them but ones with bad pins and bushings will feel like there is a loose spot in them.

What Ronus said, these cars have a habit of sagging doors, heavy *** doors will do that over time.

Make sure to replace upper bushings and lower pins and roller bushings. Check if your hinges are still good. If they are, then just get bushings and pins and your door will close like new (once adusted correctly)

If you don't want to buy the repair kit right away then I wound go to a body shop and ask them to lift/align the door (they should have the tool) It only takes a minute to do,and the shop I went to did not charge me .It lasted until I installed the hinge repair kit from Top down solutions.(again I recommend the spring tool).

Sounds like to me you need to rebuild your hinges that would need pins bushings and I would also replace the detent or you could buy new ones

Hinges need new bushings. You can get new ones at Napa.

Top Down Solutions sells everything you need, literally. Tools, bushings, pins, hinges, springs, etc.

Re: must slam driver door or won't shut all the way

If you do need pins and bushings, which I bet you do, keep an eye open in the "Group Buy" section. There is a thread and people are requestion another buy for the kits by AndysZ28. Don't know if there will be another or what the GP price would be (its been asked a few times but the guy never answers on how much) but it may be worth keeping an eye on.

Re: must slam driver door or won't shut all the way

i found a body shop by my house that said they would put in whole new module on the doors driver/passenger (i don't know what it's called) where it latches, and also new upper/lower hinges where the swings open/closed on the driver side but the passenger ones were ok. New from the dealer installed for 150$ so it seemed like a fair price. Getting it done monday.

Re: must slam driver door or won't shut all the way

Parts and labor? They do have to remove the door, drill out the spot weld and bolt a replacement hinge on.
If thats the price for all that then go for it!
