My body repair and paint thread ( black cherry )
heres some pics of how the car sits to start
holes in the decklid
fix front fender
and heres were i started today
i took this panel down to bare metal and look what i found
doesnt look that bad right ? lets try from and angle
i wa sable to hammer most of almost back to flat so i would need minimal filler , unfortunatly i ran out of time/daylight today so i didnt even get to finish sanding the firat coat of filler on the panel
aanyways heres a quick shot of how i left it
i will be using
spi black epoxy primer
spi bure black base ( with either 8-12 grams of red or blue pearl) red would make it black cherry, i dont knwo what u would call it with blue pearl in it
heres an example of black cherry
and i will be using spi universal clear
car goes in for epoxy primer the second weekend in july
i will keep this updated as i do more body and prep work and then as i spray the car

it would look like a ghost flame would if i did that.
after i spray the irocs i would then remove the stencils and then spray just the clear over the entire car
i am still undecided if im going to do that though
i dont think this would be considered a candy paint since im actually mixing my own pearl into the black base
also i am starting to lean twards blue pearl instead of the red pearl

im smoothing all the emblems on the car , i may however get some stencils and put some of the pearl in some clear and spray it just over the stenciels so the iroc on the doors stands out even when not in sunlight.
it would look like a ghost flame would if i did that.
after i spray the irocs i would then remove the stencils and then spray just the clear over the entire car

Re: My body repair and paint thread ( black cherry )
After using red PPG pearl PRLX1 in a custom mixed PPG rally red ,it looks great with even red pearl in the black stripes but there is a down side to pearl. You loose the depth of the paint. You know when you look at the paint close a red without it looks deep. The pearl IMO takes some of that away. Would I do it again, yes.
A 4oz. bottle (way more than we needed) was $192.00. He gave it to me with a shop discount and because I was buying my products from him (pro. auto. paint store) for $141.00 .He did that allot during our exchanges. We only used the best PPG had to offer .Paint came out immaculate and with a ton of prep. and a qualified preferably a pro. shooting it yours will turn out great I'm sure.
If you have not read this yet its a perfect description of things to come . = https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/auto...ck-i-hate.html

my old iroc witht he 383 had really nice factory paint , i would wash and wax that thing like once a week , go out and hang out with my friends or goto the street races and id have ppl leaning on it or setting stuf fon the hood it drove me nuts.
my friends would purposly touch my car cause they knew id break out the towel and wipe the handprints off the car

Re: My body repair and paint thread ( black cherry )
luckily the car isnt being primed to july 13th so i have some time to get everything right before then
the schedual is looking something like
july 13th spray epoxy primer
17th to the 26th block sand and fix body work as needed
july 27 either prime again or lay base/pearl coat and clear ( if i need another coat of the expoxy primer on this day the car will go back for the base/pearl clear on august 10th

Re: My body repair and paint thread ( black cherry )
i shouldnt say blue yet its still a tossup between red or blue pearl
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Oz-Metal-Flake-Patriot-Blue-Automotive-Grade-candy-hotrod-custom-auto-paint-/251236336122?pt=Motors_Automotive_Tools&hash=item3a7eda41fa

its going to be a pearl powder not flake like those but it will be either one of those colors

Re: My body repair and paint thread ( black cherry )
lmao i like the red ( posted a picture of what it looks like at the begining of the thread )
the wife likes the blue
i may have to find a flip/flop red-blue pearl powder for it lol
more then likley it will end up with the blue pearl in it , ive learned if the wife is happy she dont say nothing when u spend more money on the car, when shes not happy she will bitch about the 12$ container of car wax lol

Re: My body repair and paint thread ( black cherry )
u mix the pearl in the basecoat , this makes it so the pearl only comes out in direct light , about 12 grams per gallon of base is how u mix it ( more or less to get ur desired amount of color or effect)

Did you think that was an actual word I was using lmao? That is something you would read in a Batman comic book, after Batman clobbers the villain in the stomach, you would read the sound as being "gtfooh" as the villain leans over in pain lol. No, it was an acronym, I didn't want to write "get the fawk out of here" when asking if you really got married...

The black cherry is the color I want mine. But to find a reasonable and good body shop ( new landlord is a **** ) in Rhode island isn't easy.

Re: My body repair and paint thread ( black cherry )
I can tell you from experience that Bumper Stripper ain't worth beans...
It took the RustOleum off of my bumper covers just fine. Did not touch the base paint underneath (aka the black came off and they're still red). Even using a second can (first can went to the black). Which is one of the reasons I was going to go to the 91-92 bumper covers (because sanding them was a royal pain, but it needed to be done due to the spider cracking).
But it'll work good on your hood!

. Mix up a small batch of base and pearl and shoot cards .My painter shot several cards with different amounts of pearl and you would be amazed at how different each looked. He used spray can clear on the cards over the base to get a general idea as to what it will look like. Be sure the base on the cards is completely dry before shooting the clear. Even if the base pearl is not exactly what you end up with in the can you will have a general idea.
