Stereo Resets every time I turn the car off.

I have a 1989 Camaro RS and the guy i bought it from had been rewiring the stereo for a custom one and i finished what he did but it wouldn't turn on. It would turn on for like 2 seconds if i pressed the display button or the cd eject button. But if i combined the 12v battery constant and the ignition wires together it will turn on but resets everytime i turn the car off. Any suggestions?

the power wire is connected to the wrong section in the fuse box...idk if that's the correct terminology, but that's what was occurring with my radio as well.

Re: Stereo Resets every time I turn the car off.

Stereo should have 2 power wires, one red, one yellow. The red gets connected to 12v+ when key is on. The yellow gets connected to a 12v+ source that is always on regardless of key. That yellow wire keeps 12v+ going to radio to keep memory/clock working when key is off.

Look at your fuse box - there will be 4-5 single slots that "look" like empty fuse holders, but won't take a fuse since they are single and a fuse has 2 "legs". They will be marked with little arrows pointing to them, and are as follows:

BAT - 12v+ battery power - always has power
IGN - 12v+ only when key is on
RADIO - 12v+ only when the key is in ON or ACC position
LPS - 12v+ only when lights are on

So - GM made it easy for us - red wire to RADIO - that ay radio will work anytime key is either ON or at ACC. And yellow wire to BAT - that way clock/station memory always get 12v+ and system doesn't reset with key off.

Simple 1/4 inch male spade connectors slip right into the slots - crimp a few on and voila!.
