Quadrajet vacuum lines?

So I bought an 85 T/A that has had a 355 dropped into it. Right now, its tsrats fine, but when you throttle up, it bogs badly, and after a few minutes of running, dies. It seems to be sucking air under load, making a whuffing noise. Very little power.

Now, there is a vacuum tree that is completely capped off behind the carb, and the vacuum canister isnt hooked up at all. I'm hoping this is a combination vacuum and timing issue. I pulled the only info off the carb I could find. On the drivers side of it, it says Quadrajet by Carter, and has the nubers 17058213, 1508 BJB.

How do I determine what this carb is, and what the proper routing for the vacuum lines are?

What an amazing thing, this Goggle. . .

These guys used that very carb # for their example on how to decode q-jet numbers http://www.4wheelnoffroad.com/qjetid.html

That would be a non-computer q-jet. Unless you have a non-computer distributor, it will never run correctly.

Sounds like your poor car has been hacked up by a ham-fisted magazine mechanic. Post pics if you can, we might be able to help you sort it out. Carb, distributor, any vacuum lines that are attached, those that are capped off, etc.

Actually, I was kind of surprised by how cautiously they did the mod. No wiring was cut, even the injector harness is neatly coiled up and tied to the fire wall. It just looks like it was never finished. Looks like some of the fuel lines were a little hacked however. Here are some pics, I'll try to get some better ones tonight.

Re: Quadrajet vacuum lines?

Ya don't need all that canister stuff as long as the right lines are plugged so you don't have a vacuum leak. Just don't plug the tank vent line.

this pic may help on hook up.
