Edelbrock 1406 w/700r4

Has anyone ever used a 1406 with a 700r4 transmission. edelbrock says I can't but I have a new Carb I would like to use. How would I go about utilizing this carb with the AOD trans?

I have this carb on my car and a 700r4. Why do they say that it can't be used? If you need a pic of how I have mine set up just email me and I'll try to help.

The "tech" at Edelbrock did not say. He told me that the 1406 will not work "like it says in the catalog". I never got a catalog and did not know. I assumed that the TV cable could not be hooked up. I will e-mail you for pictures of your setup. I am using an Edelbrock 2116 Vortec Manifold. I am especailly concerned about how to mount the TV and throttle cable on the manifold also.

Usually cannot use TH700 because of TV cable pivot point intricacies. The arm on the crab probably has too long a radiuson it to the point that the kickdown nipple attaches to. This will mess up your trans over time. Also, some carb mfr's have found out that using overdrive will lower rpms so much on some cars (mainly on the highway) that the fuel enrichment circuit(s) may be constantly enabled (from lower vacuum signal at lower rpm's because of OD) , thus severly hurting mileage/performance and possibly wetting the cylinder walls to much, lessening the life of your motor drastically...

i use the 1405 carb w/ my 700r4...the only diff between the 2 is that the 1406 has an elec choke while the 1405 is manual (but i converted ) anyway i have no probs...i just had to order the pivot ball that the tv cable hooks on to, cause it wasnt there on my carb.
BTW the website says that performer series carbs are not compatible with ford aod trans, i didnt see anything about the 700r4

The pivot point radius on the carb will be wrong and do long-term damage to your trans becasue the TV cable will not work properly... Should be a 1.125" radius from center of TV nipple hole to the rotational center of the carb shaft, I think. B&M website has the TH700 locatoin instx on the installation directions of their Transpak, I think. Measure someones OEM nipple to shaft measurement and make setup that measure exactly... Angle of TV cable pull is also VERY important, believe it or not. Ask trans shop if you don't believe me.

I just got an e-mail back from Edelbrock and they now say that the carb will work with the 700r4 as long as I have the right bracket from LOKAR. Has anyone used this bracket before, maybe know the part number, etc...?

The arm on the crab probably has too long a radiuson it to the point that the kickdown nipple attaches to. This will mess up your trans over time.
How would this "mess up your trans"? If the radius was too long the arm would pull the cable as far as it could and then the sleeve would ratchet forward in the bracket.

Yeah, but then when you release the throttle, the pivot goes back farther than it should and there will be too little line pressure at the lower throttle settings. Best way to understand is exaggerate the problem and pretent the radius arm is foot long... You'll get the picture. Trust me OR call a trans expert. You may not notice it in a 190hp vehicle but if you have high hp/torque and a shift kit, only a matter of time...

You just need a geometry corrector bracket for TH700 & Edelbrock carb.
