Rear spoiler for 88 Camaro Convertible??

Ours blew off on the interstate the other day, and even though it's 4 feet long and bright red we can't find it!

Where is the best place to buy one? Also, the coupe wing is not the same as the convertible wing, is it?

Thanks!!

is it the one with the 3rd tail light? or just a plain one?

I think the coupe one & the convertable one are one & the same but I can be wrong.

It has a 3rd brake light, and it molds into 2 pieces that are attached to the rear quarter panels.

no the coupe and vert one are not the same. Just check the local salvage yards or Thirdgen resourse or hawks, that would probably be your best bet!

Wow your the 2nd Person I heard thi shappen to..

I dont see how its possible. when I took mine off my 91 vert and sold it to my Buddy in TX (his flew off on the interstate also) it had 2 brackets that were rivited in place.

Good luck finding one at a good price. I belive he was quotes 200-400. and Higher at some places because they didnt want to sell just the Center section without selling the side caps also.

I ended up giving it to him for $100. Im puting my 92Z wing on my vert

The car was painted recently, so maybe it wasn't attached properly? It looks like the brackets just snapped, but we never noticed a thing until other cars started honking and pointing! And the top was down too!

I have one that is blue, but my quote is going to be closer to the $400. You just can't find these anymore. In the next two to three years they will be down right impossible to find.

Definitely unique to the convertible. However, the 5-bulb third brake lamp assembly is the same as the ones found on coupes from 1987 thru 1990.

Wow, I didn't realize these things were so rare! We have had the car for 12-13 years now, and this is the first time we've tried to replace anything other than battery, alternator, etc. I guess nobody makes reproduction parts for these cars since there's not much of a market? Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it!

Yeah, wait until you need a piece for the convertible or the tonneau. I would search Ebay. These thigns pop up there every once in awhile. I have a built in search that I check makes it easy.

The right most mounting stud of the spoiler on my convertable broke many years ago. When it did I realized that if I messed with the others they were likely to break as well. Last year I finally decided to repair all of the studs. As expected every stud either completely broke off the spoiler or severly cracked removing the retaining nuts.

The brass studs are mounted in plastic posts that are bonded to the back of the spoiler. The plastic posts in my opinion are not even close to being beefy enough to stand-up to years of openning and closing of the trunk.

I ended up making all new mounting posts. For this I used 1 inch PVC that I cutdown and shaped using a dremel tool. Plastic weld was used to bond them to the back of the spoiler and I used an epoxy to mount the brass stud into the center.

It was a lot of work to get right but I don't think they will break off again.

I had the same problem with the studs pulling out of the plastic moldings as well. I solved it by fabricating sheet metal brackets that I epoxied to the underside of the spoiler. I put a J-clip on each bracket that a screw grabs onto. The J-clip allows for a bit of adjustment to mate with the screws.

id try contacting the group who cleans the highways in that area. let them know you lost that piece and would appreicate it if it is found if they could return it to you. might be a long shot but youve got nothing to lose. offer to buy them all coffee if its found or something.

everyone is right on the spoilers , i bought an iroc for parts and compared it to mine , totally different animals . one of the members here was taking to '91 -92 Z28 coupe wings , shaving down the side spoilers that came on the 'verts and fitting those to the back deck , VERY cool in appearance. check with tpi_roc he might know where to find that dude.
