Anybody tried "40 Below" antifreeze additive?

I bought this stuff at Auto Zone tonight called "40 below". It comes in a 1qt metal container. It says it will keep your coolant 40 degrees lower. The instructins say to drain ALL fluid from the radiator, but not the fluid that is still in the engine. Then, it says to add this 40 below stuff, and fill the rest with distilled water. It says you will have a 20% glycol, 80% water mixture and claims your water will stay 40 degrees cooler. Anybody else tried this stuff? I'd like some feedback before I open it. If it's crap, I'll take it back. It was $20 for a quart. Thanks for any info! Matt

there is also this stuff called 35* colder.. its a 160* thermostat..

in other words its not gonna do a dang thing cause your thermostat is gonna keep the coolant from circulating till it opens anyways.. at 195*

also i have never seen that stuff at autozone before..

Another hype thing. You can simply reduce your coolant ratio if you don't run the risk of freezing. Water is the primary cooling agent, antifreeze provides the freezing and corrosion protection as well as acting as a wetting agent. Many guys in warmer areas run 60/40 or 70/30 water/coolant mixes.

or 100% water with some water wetter or some other type of anti corrosive additive.

Yup, the main thing to worry about is anti-corrosion protection. The anti-freeze people say less than 30% be bad.

Use a 180 degree thermostat (mr gasket),a 15% destilled water/anti-freeze mixture,a bottle Waterwetter, and a radiator saver from JC Whitney (a small anode placed under radiator cap) and you'll be fine!!
