Heater Core bypass

I couldn't find a tech on doing this anywhere on the 'net.

My heater core just blew, and I'd like to bypass it until
I can get the core replaced.

I'm working on my 87 GTA, and this is my only car, so I need the core bypassed for now.

HELP!!!

??? Disconnect both hoses at the firewall and connect them together with a hose connector and two clamps.

That would work...If I could even SEE the firewall. There's so much crap in the way...If I could the other ends of those two hoses, I could do that.

Yes. There is a lot of crap in the way. Just like any other car. On mine the rubber heater hose comes from the passenger side of the front of the motor directly from the water pump, extends to under the a/c accumulator where it goes into the heater valve, then into a metal pipe that leads to the heater core. The other side of the heater core pipes go into the valve, then back around to the block.

If you HAVE a heater diverter valve, you should be able to unplug the valves vacuum line and plug both the valve (just in case) and the vacuum line.

If you don't have the heater valve (not sure what year they went in), then you must bypass.

Just like 8492 said, its just plumbing. Get 'er out of there and get the hose on both ends of it! 'fraid to get your skirt dirty?

BTW, I thought of the diverter valve idea. But, since there is that metal "T" connection on the passenger side down low, the water pressure would still reach the heater core, and leak. Same thing as the diverter valve being closed with the heat off.

I need to bypass the heater core completely. I thought about it going to bed last night, and I think I have it figured out.

One hose-to-hose connection.

Yes...Kinda tryng to find another way.

We finally got it done, but must have bumped something. Now my car soun'm gonna search for a spark jumping somewhere. I don't see any loose plugs, so I'm hoping for an arc jumping that can be seen in the dark.

I don't advertise, nor make excuses for being handicapped. That would be a cop out.

His comment might have been meant as a joke, but people should consider, there may be a reason, before making wise-*** cracks.

You're right..."Stephen" sure sounds like a female name, huh? Whatever...

So I made a typo....Not like it even makes sense, or could be misread.

As a FOUNDER of this website, I seriously doubt I'm a even a teenager, much less female.

Run a hose from the back of the intake manifold to the Radiator.

V edit: you were bitching about not being able to do it. I suggested an easyway. What the hell did you do with the line out of the back of the intake.

Why? It's easier to just connect the two heater hoses to each other. All I had to do was buy a 5/8" to 3/4" hose connector.

It's done now. It was a very simple install.

I'll email the tech write up to the admins, since it wasn't listed on ANY site on the web.

Stephen, just a question, but why did you get all upset about getting your skirt dirty? It was obviously a joke, so whats up? Nowhere on your profile does it say you are handicapped. Im sorry to hear that, but come on. You cant expect us to know that unless you tell us, and if you dont tell us, dont get upset if we make wisecracks. Heck I was about to say the exact thing!

So I guess think before you snap back.

Profiling myself as handicapped, is making excuses for my inabilities. I make no excuses, I deal with it.

Off camber jokes are not called for in life anywhere. Would you just start calling somebody you met in life, "Retarded", without being concerned for their feelings? No, you wouldn't. 'Net shouldn't be any different.

Can you read? Apparently not...

The QUESTION was...The same as making a smart-*** comment, would be the same as calling somebody retarded. A stupid, un-caring way to communicate.

No, the difference is, I could give a crap less what you think...

I fully said what I meant. You just weren't smart enough to read a post...Sucks to be you...

Boils down to one thing...

A negative statement shouldn't have been used as a joke.

Why should I drop it now?

I did on the last post, but you had to come in and dig it up...You were never involved, nor should be now.
