ground strap

Found a braided ground strap near the passenger firewall. Where does it go? What does it do? What happens when it isnt connected? I searched and got mixed answers. Some say dont bother reattaching it, others say it can couse problems. Read it goea to the head also read it goes to manifold. Could somebody set me straight here?

Thanks,

Matt

I searched again. I'm gonna reconnect it reagrdless, I figure it could only do good. Can I just attach it to the bolt on the valve cover. There is no way i can reattach it in the right spot. I have centerbolt style covers. I figure putting a ring terminal on th end and slipping it under the valve cover bolt. This a problem?

Thanks,

Matt

Axle/Gears: ones that turn.
They usually attach to the back end of the cylinder head, or on the block just above the bellhousing.

Don't use the valvecover, it's not a great ground. If you have an external coil mount the wire to the base mounting bracket, or the the bracket for the EGR vacuum solenoid which is also usually there.

What about the plenum? I dont have the distributor cover piece on. Can I put it through on one of those bolts?

If you don't object to the way it looks, sure!
