CTSY Fuse Keeps Blowing!
ok this is annoying as hell. my CTSY/curtosy fuse (a 20) that controls power, locks mirrors, my trunk release and my interior lights keeps blowing!!!!!
i put one in it blows 2 mins later. i thought it was my sub cause the guy who i bought it from wired it directly to the fuse box, but even with it off it still blows.
so i asked the guy at autozone, he said part of the circuit is gettin wet, or that two wires are touching.
is this a common problem? can i just put a higher guage fuse in there? if so is it dangerous?
im so pissed off by this, please help me out. i dont kno **** about electronics.

Check your cigarette lighter...in the Firebirds it's common for stuff to fall into the socket and short out.

There are two plastic squeeze tabs on the side of the fuse panel. Just squeeze them and the panel will drop down. It controls the interior lights, door locks, convenience center, hatch release, power mirrors, power antenna relay, delco-bose amplifier relay (if applicable).

If it takes 2 minuets to blow the fuse, that sounds like an electric motor that is jammed and drawing too much current. Does the hatch pull down moter get hot before the fuse blows? Might have a bad limit switch.

The convenience center is sort of like a second fuse holder. it is located at the left side of the center console under the dash. It often contains a few fuses depending upon the model car, the flasher relay, and the audio alarm system (that annoying buzzer). It looks like this.

On the camaro's, there is a little round button on the right side of the steering column near the lock cylinder. On the T/a's it could be in the same location or it could be on the dash as a button with a triangle symbol on it. The horn relay might be a cause of the horn not working or it could be the connector under the horn pad on the steering wheel is not connected.

Contrary to what was posted just above your post, the center part of the switch is pushed in to activate the hazard lights.
The flasher relay for the hazards is the one located in the convenience center.

Re: CTSY Fuse Keeps Blowing!
I am also having a similar situation with my ctsy fuse blowing a lot!! I did however have some wires burn at the firewall and am now slowly replacing wires to get the car to a functioning order. However when I blow mine the car stalls and has no power to anything. Should this be normal? or is that fuse in question wired to something else it shouldn't be now?

Re: CTSY Fuse Keeps Blowing!
If you only burn this fuse your car should still be running.
The manual says this fuse control the following if equipped:
Amplifier relay
Convinience center horn relay
Release switch (hatch release)
Radio
Courtesy lights
Dome light
Reading lights
Roof console
Cargo compartment
Outside mirrors switch
Door lock switch
Antenna relay
Cigar lighter
You are going to have fun checking all these wires.
The problem is you probably have something connected to this fuse that should not be connected to it.
So now you have to find the intruder and connect it to the right fuse. It maybe your ignition that is wrongly connected to that fuse.

Also, it may be the cigar lighter itself. Mine shorts out and blows the fuse. It now resides in the console. I've seen that with other GM cars too.

Re: CTSY Fuse Keeps Blowing!
Ok... so I've gone over almost every wire... Right off the bat I found a frayed wire at the fuse panel that might have been bridging but not sure. Other than that.. I found no burned wires anywhere coming from the CTSY fuse. I am also not sure why, when that fuse blows the car is shutting down.

Re: CTSY Fuse Keeps Blowing!
I keep blowing my 20 amp which cuts out the dome light, footlight, and cigarette lighter and allows the radio to play loud when fuse is in radio is very quiet but lights and cigarette lighter work
