Repaired the horn button, but the white plastic piece where the button wire twists in is broken, won't hold the wire. How can I replace that receiver? Parts car down the street that I could grab it off of. I assume I'll have to pull the wheel? Is the white plastic piece independent, or part of another assembly/part? Thanks!

Must be specific to 88 IROCs, mine has the same problem. Haven't bothered figuring out what I'll do about it yet though.

it looks like the sleeve broke just where the posts would seat into the slots. I got a nice button, looks like new, but I had to repair where they all break at the plastic rivets in the back. Got a Dremel and drilled out the center of the rivets to hold the epoxy, then epoxied the metal piece back down. 3 of 4 were gone. Hope it holds ok.

Had the same problem. The "white sleeve" would not seat and hold the contact in place. I fixed it by just pushing a non-conductive piece of rubber in the hole with the wires on top of the sleeve. As long as it is tight enough to hold the spring tension on the bottom contact, it works fine. This has held for over 2 years now and no wheel removal was necessary.

Ok, if I'm reading this right, you used rubber aroung the sleeve that is on the horn button wiring and basically wedged it into the white sleeve, enough wedge to hold the button wire/spring compressed down to the contact at the bottom? Good idea. Otherwise, any idea on the ultimate fix, how to replace the inner sleeve with the groves that the wiring sleeve locks into? Thanks for the tip!

The piece that is broken is called a Canceling cam. Its also used for the horn contact. To replace it you'll need to remove the steering wheel, then remove the lock plate (with a lock plate depressor tool). Remove the lock ring, then you will finally reach the canceling cam. You will be able to remove it with your fingers. Remove, and put a new one in.

Lets stop botching guys... You should be able to pick up a new one for under 10$ from your nearby dealer, or a freebie from the JY.

Thanks Spike! That's perfect. Hopefully I can keep it real cheap and Advance with have lock plate depressor tool in their loaner stuff. Been going fishing in Canada for 30+ years. Like a second home. Never been to Quebec, but some of the guys have been to Beltaire, if I spelled that right. I couldn't make that trip. Lake Nipissing/North Bay in Ontario. Appreciate your help!

Thanks for the kind words on the car! Its really appreciated, I have a lot of blood, sweat and tears into it and love to hear positive feedback.
"Shaved" is an expression meaning "delete". If you look at the pictures, you'll notice that there is no more door handles, antenna, emblems, gas cap etc. They all have been shaved and relocated elsewhere (gas cap) or completely gone (all the rest).

We have lots of great fishing spots here in Quebec, probably a lot more then Ontario! . I dont know where Beltaire is, but there is lakes everywhere here. Its an awesome place.

I fixed mine by taking some small snips and cutting another notch. To replace the whole piece you need to remove the locking ring.

I think about redoing my body like you did, but I don't have the facilities/space, and I shudder to think how much that would cost in a good shop. Being a desert car, I'm finding virtually no rust except the trunk lid, but I'd still like to do it right, Rhino/bedliner/undercoating, the whole deal. We'll see what happens...I've been pretty fanatic about everything else. I think Beltaire is more north of where I go, and Nipissing is about 350K above Toronto. Would like to go to the Briar(sp?) sometime. Love the curling. Missed it when it was halfway close last year.
