Re: 87-89 350 TPI ESC Module

In my chiltons manual, it says that the ESC system(electronic spark control) is used in conjuction with the EST system(electronic spark timing) to reduce spark knock by retarding the ignition timing. A knock sensor, which is installed in the cylinder block, sends a signal to the ESC module and then in turn to the ECM, which then adjusts timing accordingly.

Re: 87-89 350 TPI ESC Module

If the ECM doesn't work, the engine won't run.
If you meant to ask what would happen if the ESC didn't work, you'd probably get knock from too much timing advance. Or false knock on the other hand, which would actually rob your engine of power randomly. It's hard to say which one.

Hope this helps.

No
Just keep the wiring to the gauge senders in engine .All you need is power to the coil and some way of making the fan and fuel pump run without the computer

I think that I have the same problem. Fitted a new distributor but it won't spark. Was thinking that it might be the ESC module.

Re: 87-89 350 TPI ESC Module

The esc module is for knock retard and will not kill spark.
first verify you have power to the ecm, check pu coil output. If that’s fine it could be a faulty icm. Please start a new thread this ones dead.
