neutral safety switch

How do you bypass the neutral safety switch? if you can, will the reverse lights still work?

Re: neutral safety switch

I can't imagine why you would even want to do this but.. that's none of my business.

Remove the top plate on your console and put a jumper from the yellow to purple wires on the switch that is on the shifter.

Re: neutral safety switch

i put a b&m quicksilver in and i just have the neutral safety switch taped up. its just annoying because i have to keep re-taping it and I have to press it together to start it. pretty easy to imagine eh?

anybody know if deleting this switch will cause the reverse lights to not work??

Re: neutral safety switch

That makes sense when you say it's because you have an aftermarket shifter.

If the switch that was on the OEM shifter is just hanging out, where ever you have it, the reverse lights aren't working now anyways. The reverse light switch is part of the neutral safety switch. There should be a dk blue and a lt green wire on that switch. That is your reverse lamps.
It's a simple on/off circuit.

Re: neutral safety switch

Also, there's a third circuit connected to the Automatic Shifter Switch. It's the Park/Neutral signal for the ECM. If you don't have an ECM in your car anymore, you can ignore this. If you do, it would be good to keep the switch so that the engine can run right.

Re: neutral safety switch

ok, i'll tell ya the reason why you would want to bypass the switch.. because its a PAIN IN THE FREAKIN ****!! we have had 2 go out in 3 months!!! we are putting another one in now and its still not working. our 'security' light now is on so we are having an obliterated N.S.S. replaced as the security issue..

as far as the purple /yellow wires... we don't have a yellow wire but there is an orange one... so , I guess i need more information on this.
