I have read that the motor mounts are different for the f-bodys. My question is which side is specific to the f-body? Is the frame mount shorter or is the engine side clam shell mount shorter? The 350 that I am putting in my came out of an 86 iroc (not original) but it had hood clearance issues. It has an Edelbrock performer EPS intake and an Edelbrock 600 cfm carb. I have to buy new mounts anyway.

Also, I read that most of you prefer the SS type hood over a cowl hood. If my clearance issue is because of my intake setup, do the SS hoods also have cut outs for the air cleaner?

yeah i have an ss hood with a airgap intake 1 inch spacer holley carb and air cleaner all tucked under nicely...o yeah what part of tx u in?

Just done a 355 swap with rpm performer intake and holley 750 carb older style engine 2 piece main. I put mounts from 305 tbi engine on and I don't have even an Inch from the stock bonnet. what can I do to get an air cleaner on it? Any Help Would be appreciated

f bodies use the clam shell style on the block just like alot of trucks. pretty common at the junkyard.... whitney eh thats cool i picked up an rs camaro up there about a year ago....

Are you saying the clamshells mount to the side of the engine block and not the crossmember? Just wondering, because that may be why I'm having trouble installing my 350. I have the clamshells mounted to the crossmember and the engine brackets mounted on the side of the engine using the 3-bolt provisions. The driver's side won't quite fit right, it's either too high on the engine or too low on the frame. The right side lines right up perfect with the through-bolt. All my engine mounting parts come from a '76 Impala. That's probably my main problem.

I think I remember reading on this site that the engine mount brackets were shallower on 3rd gens than other GM cars. Can anyone confirm this? If this is true, then that would explain why the bolt holes that attach the brackets to the clamshells are off by about 1/2 " on my car. I'm using the clamshells and brackets from a 76 Impala. About a year ago I looked up the part numbers for the clamshells and they were the same for my car as the Impala. My car is originally a L4, so I tried to use the mounting hardware from an Impala. So far, not so good.

This is a case where terminology can get us all confused.

The part that mounts to the frame is probably more aptly called "clamshell", because the insulating insert is "clamshelled" within it.

The engine side should probably just be called the "engine side mount bracket". classicindustries.com has new ones available, right hand is p/n G7277, left hand is p/n G7278. They'll run you about $80 for the pair (about what the dealer would charge, from what I recall on this Board recently).

Sorry, I already sold the pair I removed from my Berlinetta #2. The frame side are still available, if you're interested in 27-year-old mounts. Poly inserts highly recommended whether you use yours or buy something else.
