Most Aggressive/Loud Mufflers :)

Finally got the motor reinstalled and started car for first time in over a month the other day on open headers, and I really loved the loudness of the car, but of course it was a little too loud. The car is about to have the exhaust revamped, true duals(probably H-Pipe) on Shorty's with no cats and exhaust being dumped at rear axle.

What's the loudest, most aggressive mufflers(Bullet sized) do you know of? Of course I could run open pipes, but I'm not going to be THAT big of a jerk to my neighbors . The original plan was Dynomax Bullets, but is there something out there a little louder? My car is mildly stalled(2400) & cam'd(LT4 HC). I don't want the car to sound like a pickup from out in the sticks, just curious of something loud, aggressive, and really allows the car to be heard. Of course it'd need to be at least a hair quieter than open headers, but who cares if it's not by much... the Camaro is just a rarely driven toy .

Who knows if I'll REALLY do it, but what's out there?

Technically, Bullets aren't street legal. But, if you want louder, you'll have to go open pipes.

I have said it again and again, it is possibly the loudest muffler that doesnt sound like a glass pack, it is the Flowmaster Outlaw muffler, it is bullet sized and it is a verry agressive piece of equipment and it is only 80$ or so thru summit or jegs. Good luck with you search.

i'd stick with the bullets... or possibly a shorter chambered tube style but they might not be as loud but will have nice tone

If you got the dough go with GMMG exhaust. Look for clips/soundbites at www.Ls1sounds.com

The Bullets just don't seem that loud to me. I have one buddy with a '67 Camaro that's all stalled/cam'd out(11sec car) and yes it is loud, but then I have another buddy with '96 T/A & Pacesetter LT's w/ X-Pipe and Dynomax Bullets but it's just not that loud, seems like my buddies '01 SS Borla is louder. I can definately get away with Bullets... Bullets are louder than GMMG, and I'm definately not going to waste my money on a GMMG exhaust.

You really think Dynomax Bullets are the loudest mufflers on the market? I know my open headers were louder, but wow, the Bullet mufflers seemed to make quite a noticeable difference.

CAR CHEMISTRY!!!!!!!!!!!! get the header inserts and run straight pipe all the way back.. thats basically what my exhaust is.. car chemistry used to sell their header inserts in a bullet casing and called it mufflers.. i have a pair of those on 2.5" true duals.. its the ONLY car that sounds like it.. but i am the only car with my setup.. haha

one more thing.. if you want 3" true duals, just get the header inserts and literally run straight piping all the way back.. but either way, it would be cheaper with straight piping all the way back.. the "mufflers" only come up to 2.5".. summit still sells them..

I run dual 3 inch bullet mufflers and they are too freakin loud. If my window is down, my ear drums tingle. A friend of mine can hear me about 3/4 of a mile away with sound traveling through pine trees and houses. Just had a guy tonight ask if my car was a pro-stocker Honestly, they're just a touch under what open headers are, at least on my car. Here's a video at the track last year.

Hmmm, I may end up sticking with the Bullets, just didn't know if there was anything else out there that was a bit louder than the Bullets. I'm gonna run open pipes for a little while and see how long I can get away with it before I go ahead and toss the mufflers on to finish the exhaust.

im going to use flowmaster 10series single chambers on my true duals it isnt much of a muffler but i wanted something loud but a lil smoother sound than the bullets produce but i got the idea from looking at some ls1 setups and i was able to get two mufflers used from ebay for a steal. they usually run around $120 a peace new i got two shipped to m door for $50 never been welded look like new. ill post some links of some sound clips given they are on ls1 cars but you get the idea

I have one of those on my car right now, it's pretty loud. Not as loud as I thought it was before I found the two blown exhaust gaskets, but still pretty stinkin' loud.

I haven't heard it yet but I'm running a 3" bullet in the stock muffler location that just ends with a turn down. Should be loud.

Hedman Shorties
Hedman Ypipe (custom 3")
Magnaflow 3" cat
3" Ipipe
Bullet muffler

Wow, I'm loving the open headers, OFFICALLY finished the car after one month and nearly two weeks of working on it. Cruised around with the other FBod guys in the area, found out I could be heard like two miles away when at full-throttle, Haha, it was a lot of fun though. I know I'm going to get in trouble real soon and I already got two of the neighbors pissy when I brought the Camaro home for the night, and this was only the first night! Looks like the Bullets are the winner... I just hope they give me that near open header sound I'm really wanting...

After corking it back up and making some more runs, I discovered the timeslips consistently showed quicker 60' through 1/4 mile ETs, and faster 1/8 & 1/4 mile MPH corked up.

I haven't uncorked it since.

woo hoo, thats my car!! I have since changed mufflers tho, bullet mufflers are WAY TOO LOUD, unless u have a limited street driven car. I've been around drag racing and loud cars my entire life and it was too annoying for even me. personal preferance i guess plays in. sound tough = yes.

sounds like you dont have enough motor to take advantage of open headers.. corking it up will give you better lowend and midrange..vs. open will give you just barely more top end and kill lowend from lack of backpressure..

unless the motor is tuned very well then you really shouldnt lose a whole lot but it is true that you will lose some low end

Well, I finally went with the Bullet mufflers. Tomorrow, the big install is taking place, shorty headers into 2.5in true duals with no cats... hoping it sounds tough and loud .

How about that electric cut out, flip a switch / open headers flip the switch and through the muffler...

you wont need a cutout with bullets, it will sound like open headers at WOT.

There wouldn't be much difference

Yesterday I drove the car since my truck's starter was acting up again. Well, something happened on the road and there was cops all over the place blocking 3 lanes of traffic. I drove by nice and slow and had one cop look at me while driving past

i drove mine with open headers and turndowns a few months ago and from inside, it was actually quieter than with my exhaust..

my exhaust comes up right infront of the rear tire so the sound is right there, blasting in my ears.. the headers shoot sound straight back so i could hear less.. but i'm sure it was louder overall..

i love it when cops look at me.. non of them do anything.. they just look (*knock on wood*) and wave..

friend of mine has a 69 mach 1 with a 351 cleaveland .600+ lift cam and he drove around for almost a year with open cutouts all the time cops would sit at stop lights and grin and give him the thumbs up until one pulled him over one night and he was in a parade too. he got it droped then two weeks later they got him again and he was running full exhaust that was even quieter than my 86 t/a with stock lg4 and flowmaster cat back. but the noise is fun on occasion if you can get away with it

How do the bullets sound at idle, how about around 2500 rpm, and then WOT?

the bullets will get louder over time after the crappy fiberglass packing burns out. You'll really love them than. I just traded mine in for Borla XR-1's. The sound was similar between the both when the bullets were new

Loud = you have to shout to the person 3 feet in front of you
Louder = you can see lips moving but can't hear them
Loudest = your eardrums explode

I see that you already ordered your exhaust, but I would say that the best sounding exhaust to me are the PURPLE HORNIES. Direct bolt on to the headers and they have turndowns. Nothing comes close to them IMO for mufflers. My brother has a 350 small block with chevy 400 heads and a cam with 314 degrees of durationand you can here the overlap thumping in the exhaust. Sounds amazing.

Hey I really like those Purple Hornies!....those would get me by till I get some money to run my full Borla exhaust...Im running full length Hooker 2210's with an auto......I checked to see if they would fit and being that they are 32" long...I dont see how they would fit? THey would hit the frame and the tranny cross member...

how did you run them? and fit?

Re: Most Aggressive/Loud Mufflers :)

Wishmaster, I'm sorry to say there not on my car, there on a 1978 camaro. But I also have good news. I know somebody else who has fit them on athird gen. Buy or fabricate 2 90 degree mandrel bent exhaust pipes about 16 inches long. From there connect the purple hornies and they should fit fine under the floor boards. It's definetly worth it. Trust me.

Re: Most Aggressive/Loud Mufflers :)

after gutting my cat, i'm gonna say chambered tubes are pretty loud. maybe not quite bullet loud but they are loud. idle sounds very mean but its loud on revs and has a slightly different tone that i'm not sure i like yet.

Re: Most Aggressive/Loud Mufflers :)

Well, the job has been done but honestly I was a little disappointed, thought the car would be a little louder. Maybe it's just me because I had been listening to open headers for a while... where anything seems 'too quiet' compared to that. I just have to go back in here in a few days/weeks and have the X-Pipe added and the exhaust will be completely done. Clearance isn't an issue unless if someone heavy is sitting in passenger seat.

Re: Most Aggressive/Loud Mufflers :)

i've got a single flowmaster 40 series on mine. pretty aggressive, yet sounds good. i get a TON of compliments on it - although sometimes it's a little "snappy".

here is a link to the sound - http://z28boy.cz28.com/camaro1.wav

Re: Most Aggressive/Loud Mufflers :)

What about the "power sticks" mufflers, some posts somewhere around here about them.
http://www.torquetechexh.com/powersticks.htm
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/ex...er-sticks.html (Power sticks)

Are they as loud as the bullets ? Or a bit more quiet ?

Re: Most Aggressive/Loud Mufflers :)

I have Hedman shorties, hollowed out Cat, and a bullet and most people think my car is a dragster with open headers. I'm surprised cops haven't stop me for it, but have been chased after because of it. THen I had to drive nice and slow. Even if it was legal, but have leaks in the header gaskets and a nice blown headgasket right now. Also when I got a bullet, it was just a pipe that expands then back to the regular size and inside had nothing in it except a little screen, but nothing was behind it.

My exhaust dumps pretty much right at the start of where the back seat cushions are. If you're just putting around town, windows up or down, you can talk to the passenger ok. Windows down and getting on it, your ear drums hate you for it. Windows up getting on it, it's not so bad. Here's an in-car video at the track when I took a friend's girlfriend for a ride
