anyone used this jegs exhaust?

pretty good price considering its comes with a 3" intermediate pipe, and its all mandrel bent.

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

I'm pretty sure all Jegs exhaust systems are made by Heartthrob. See for yourself. I know the muffler is the same.

I'm sure it's a good system but I don't think it gets better than a 16829 with an E-cutout before the axle. That's what I have.

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

$50 muffler means your paying $200 for the I-pipe? Doesn't sound like much of a deal to me. Besides, unless your over 400hp, you'll never use all 3 inches of the I-pipe. Standard 2.5 inch pipe flows plenty for 90% of motors.

If you need a new I-pipe, fine I guess. If you just want a better muffler, look at a Hooker Aerochamber - nice and quiet until you get on it, flows better than most any others.

im very much well aware of other systems guys.. im not a newb.. simple question if anyone is using it.. ive had flowmaster, dynomax, hooker, and magnaflow

when you consider that the front intermediate pipes are now $100.. and the back half are almost the same.. plus they only sell ones made for LT1 or LS1 now which have to be slightly modified to work with our mounting points... this system actually is a decent buy... granted the muffler isnt the "best" but since no one here has heard it, its probably on par with dynomax's turbo muffler. the exhaust tail pipes are also different as they are not bent at the mid section, and not crush bent.

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

I have heard a single in/single out Jegs/Heartthrob muffler. It sounds like a cross between a Flowmaster and a Turbo muffler. Check out the pic.

Huh?

OK - not mandrel bent, but a stock 3rd gen I-pipe sells all day long at Advance Auto for $32. That's the el cheapo Walker junk sure - but certainly not $100, and IS specifically for a 3rd gen car.

And I only paid $80 for my Hooker muffler. So, $250 - $80 is still $170 for a I-pipe ... expensive in my book ... especially for that 305 motor that will never notice mandrel bent or not, let alone 3 inches vs. 2.5 inches or even 2.25 inches.

It's your cash, spend it how you like - I was trying to save you a buck. I just think it's silly to put 3inch mandrel bent exhaust on a motor that will never use it. It's like buying your wife a new dress and then you never take her out of the house.

If you just want to brag - call Mangaflow or Flowmaster and order a $2 sticker for the windshield - no one will ever crawl up under your car to verify it anyway.

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

305 motor??? try an LT1 350 with a XR270 cam... so yeah going to need the 3" since my ballpark HP figure is in the 330rwhp range.. that $32 pipe is 2.25" the 3" is $109 from summit racing, and summit no longer carries these for 82-92 cars.. only 93-02

in the end i will probably just buy a magnaflow single in, dual out and make a 2 on the left system like the 4thgen SS. My welding skills are improving.

I was just curious to see what this system sounded like

Just pointing out that 305 or lt1 cammed 350, you will never make full use of an exhaust system with 3" mandrel bent tubing, tough guy.

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

This thread brings mega disappointment. The OP didn't want BS about whether or not is a good deal or if it's needed. The whole world doesn't have to have stock, Flowmaster, or Magnaflow exhaust.

Has anyone used the Jegs system? How is the fit/sound/quality?

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

I figure I'll un-disappoint the thread and bring it back from the dead.

Yes, I do own this exhaust system. My car build is on a budget and I just wanted something different. I also bought a Magnaflow catalytic converter to go with it, the direct fit for our cars. Not sure on the part number.

Anyhow, I took it to a muffler shop since the person who wanted to help me install it bailed on the project once I bought it, but I did watch them install it. They welded it in.
The only installation issue they ran into was the hangar on the over-the-axle pipe. I think the guy didn't want to contort it so he cut it off and rewelded it on. There was also an issue with the opening on one end of the intermediate pipe. There was a bump or ding on it they had to fix to get it to fit properly. He said they see it with alot of kits they put on, regardless of manufacturer.

The sound is mellow and slightly deeper than stock. Sounds really nice when you floor it. There really isn't any drone at all. At idle with the stereo off you can here a dronish sound but you can talk over it at a normal speaking voice. You can't hear it with the stereo on. I have noticeable power increase over stock but I have no HP numbers to share.

I took a gamble on it and I'm glad I did. It has a nice overall sound, isn't drony or annoying sounding, and the price was nice. Can't complain.

I'm a super budget guy, too. Got any pics of how the tailpipes look on your car?

Thanks!

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

Here are a couple of pictures for you. I didn't get any tips yet as I'm still trying to make up my mind on which ones, if any, to use. I'm just happy I have something to fill in just below the bumper. The one thing I never liked about these cars is how the exhaust was tucked under the car which left a bit of a bare spot back there, especially when you view the car from the side.

I guess you think GM is silly too.
The stock 350 performance I pipe is 2 3/4" mandrel bent.

Re: anyone used this jegs exhaust?

I don't know anything about the Jegs kit, but Summit Racing has their own kit that are not priced bad. You can get them with a turbo or 2 chamber muffler. From what I have been told the Summit 2 chamber sounds alot like the Hooker AROW chamber.
