oil pan modifications ideas? (for road racing)

Iv looked at many after market pans manly road race style pans since this is the type of pan i will need to run. i plan on using a oem stock pan and modify it to suit my needs, modified oem pump and modified pickup depending upon design of the pan. - just looking for ideas, plans, pics, tips anything of that nature would be great

Re: oil pan modifications ideas? (for road racing)

Why don't you just buy an aftermarket road race oil control pan? If you fabricate one yourself and make some miscalculations, you will have an engine good for a boat anchor or the like.

I would get the proper pan for the proper job. Ever look into anexternal resivoir system, I hear they work quite well. I am planning on getting one for my car.

Re: oil pan modifications ideas? (for road racing)

i plan on running a oil accumulator, screened windage tray, rear main pan baffle and crank scraper. im just going to cheap out and build my own pan its simple and easy - just looking for ideas for stop, go and high cornering G's to keep the pick up in oil with out starving it

Re: oil pan modifications ideas? (for road racing)

If you are going to buy an aftermarket oil pan there are a couple on considerations to keep in mind.

1. It will have to clear the k-member if you have the stock one and not a tubular one.
2. There will need to be enough clearance between the oil pan and the k-member if you are using the stock exhaust routing.

I strongly recommend just buying a pre-made pan. Go to Canton's website, they offer a road race style pan that will work with the stock crossmember and crossover exhaust. I'm running the 15-244t with long tubes. The canton pans have bungs for oil temp sensors, trap doors, windage trays, crank scrapers, you name it. I love mine and am glad I got it. I auto-x the car and I run 1-2 HPDE "open track day" and wanted to make sure I didnt run the engine out of oil. At 3000+ rpm around the right handed sweeper at Nelson Ledges the oil pressure gage never moved.
